    Bragging - Giving away secrets

As a Pro fisherman I have seen over the years the effect sites like this have on certain areas over the SE Qld Coast. I would have to say i am fed up with the amateur attitude of offshore fisho's who don't respect each other and give each other space, both on ramps and 50km + offshore

I have seen Mooloolaba turn into a heavily fished area, with trailers seen parked 500m + down the road from ramps where good parking already is. I won't fish here on weekends as the amateurs around are just dangerous not to mention just plain frustraiting

I have seen ramps at for the wide Bay bar and further north over full which has never been the case for years on end.

1770 has grown out of control with boats from as far south at the NSW boarder making the run on weekends when the weekend is good. The locals as much as the regular fisho's have had a gut full of the amateurs coming from Brisbane and places and going on about how many fish they nailed.

Not meaning to single people out but Posts Like (Spot82 - sorry mate, no harm inended) put heavy fishing pressure on areas like 1770. It's not hard to catch Reds, snapper, trout anything. you don't need flash lures, thin line, latest reels or anything. I know a very good friend who is a pro who leaves from Bribie(Spinnerker Sound) who catches some very nice fish including some good reds. The main thing you need is Hours on the water. Any amateur can fish places like 1770 and Di and fill the esky's with Reds.

I'm not saying don't post your report, let's just keep areas quiet. Talk more about technique, bait ,tide, moon phase.

Over the years I have seen some good fisherman posts some good reports and these guys have quickly realised that giving away secrets add heavy fishing pressure to reefs. E.G The hards - most people 6 years ago had never heard of this area, now all weekend warriors make there way there. A few years ago there was a "Hot" Snapper bite happen of the Sunshine Coast which saw boats from all over the SEQ and further South hit the Mooloolaba area. From that year Snapper fishing has been hit and miss.

I know it pumps your ego when people pat you on the back, but if 30 people give you a rap, then 3,000 people have seen where you have gone.

Believe it or not but even Pros will work differant marks. A few fish from here and few fish from there.

What do you think? I'm sure some of the old guys who use to post can comment.

    Give the feedback.

Spot on mate, its only going to get worse. I don't waste time fishing weekends anymore because of those exact reasons.

Re: Bragging - Giving away secrets

Areas like Mooloolaba have become so popular to fishos, quite simply because the areas themselves are becoming more populated. I have been fishing for more than 25 years and have never seen as many boats on the water as previous years, BUT, this is not because people on this site or others alike like to come on hear and brag. Population in Brisbane and in fact QLD is on the rise and owning a boat is becoming the new thing to do. Not all of the trailers that you see at the boat ramps are for fisherman. Jet ski's, ski boats etc are starting to dominate the ramps during the summer months.

I have seen some really bad things in my lifetime........for example....fish being dumped on the beach after the netters have hauled a load of mullet and tailor, but do you write about this? What is this doing to the fish stocks??

GPS units are becoming more and more accurate and fishos are becoming more and more likely to fish a spot if they caught fish there last time quite simply because it costs so much to go fishing nowadays. Fuel is through the roof, bait is expensive if you don't catch your own.........a simple trip offshore could easily amount to close to $150. I know I would fish a spot that I caught fish last time. Hunting for new ground can raise the cost of the trip even higher.

Amateur fisherman tend to stick together. We share trends, secrets, baits, styles, etc because it is the Aussie way. I happily let people know about trips that I have had success on. I have nothing to hide, rather it makes me feel good to share what I have learnt or worked out with others.

    Thoughts?

Nothing better than a couple of nice fish on the QT.
Likely as not you will repeat the catch next time conditions are similar.
Lot of hard work finding spots and learning when they fish best.
Only logical that there are finite numbers of fish.
Take a feed or two and leave the rest for next time.
But not everyone can accept this idea, ie your 'yellow raincoat brigade' and fellow travellers who need to kill/take everything that swims..................hence a bit of discretion is perhaps worthy of consideration.
    Cheers.

Can't see anything getting any quieter with the QLD population getting larger by the day.1770 has been steadily increasing in popularity in the last 10yrs or so and because the road was upgraded from shit dirt road all those years ago things would only get more developed over time. For me 1770 is not a weekend destination and those that travel up for this good luck to you.Still plenty of fish too chase Iam sure your not missing out.Fishing off Moreton Is is challenging and there are fish there but you have to work for them.Way i see it who gives a rats if you get fish boating is more enjoyable and thats what i do enjoy myself and sometimes i get a few fish for the family.Jim ps i do get where your coming from and your entitled to your view.

i can still go to my little spotts i have been fishing for 40 yrs now (but not on week ends any more)cant walk a klm to the ramps lol but i can still catch a nice feed one other mate goes with me and has done for yrs he is a miserable bugger and talks to no one about where we go that is why we seldom see other boats fishing in our fav spots hence me normally getting a feed.

No doubt that huge population increases in the south east is a big contributor to increased boating and fishing pressure.
And yet still so many whinge about green zones etc. The fish do need some help like zones and size and take limits.
Having said that I think your comments are a tad elitist and you seem to be implying that the fish are for locals and pros and no one else should either know or have the benefit of great fishing country? Its a huge coastline and there are plenty of fish, but while pro netters can still take enormous amounts of fish and not to mention the loss of so many juvenile fish from by catch, a few extra boats flying around on weekends aint the problem in my opinion.
A lot of the extra boats as mentioned are not all fishos, and even those that are are not so experienced, hence their impact on fish stocks is minimal.
But that's my opinion only, be keen to hear what others think on this, no doubt there will be some diversity of thought.

1770 today (well 3 years ago) reminds me almost of the way Noosa used to be, once a very nice place well worth the visit, then the middle of the 1990s came along....and gutted the place IMO, would shiver to visit it today.

    1770 in 10 years??

Progress and population is all it is, mind you we do our population centres quite condensed with 95% of all infrastructure already existing 50 years ago or it simply will never exist so this in it's self creates focal points for the population as they have no choice but to 'converge'.

I hear you skip but unfortunately many of us hard working weekend warrior city folk put up with traffic jams, polution, crowded living spaces, long drives to boat ramps. i sure as hell resent some local retiree or pro flogging the guts out of an area 5 days a wk at 1770 then having a winge when i go there for a fish, if you dont like it you know where you can stick it.

i tell you what how about you wingers head to brissy for the wkend a bit more and stop crowding out the city folk looking for some peace and quiet!

spoken .like a tru pro fisho
pull your head out of your ar$e and realise that everyone here on gods great land is entitled to a piece of the action , if they happen to be better at it than you than boo hoo matey and why not go farming or something easier?? oh hang on land farmers actually give something back to the industry by fertilising , tilling and and caring for the dirt they farm not like the pro fishing industry that just take take take and only give bake dead bycatch and abuse to the rec fishoes . if you are so worried about sites like this then why have you given everyone the heads up that they should be fishing 1770 during the week when you are there hammering the $hit out of it.
have a few asprin and some concrete and see if that clears up the tears
    fondest regards swano

"Leave from Mooloolaba around 40km to fish shallow ground. The closer reefs e.g 12mile, inner & outers and down off caloundra are fishing alot better at present compared to the wide reefs. The current has been running hard earlier in the week."

If you really believe in what you are saying then why are YOU giving out this info??????

Re: Bragging - Giving away secrets

Skipper you make a few pertinant points but a few of your remarks are a bit off the mark.
You mention Spot 82. Well look at his post .300 km travelled and you say that by mentioning 1770 he's going to cause the place to be fished out ...well thats just pure crap. Theres a lot of area betweeen 1770 and the 300 kms he travelled for that catch and there wouldnt be that many blokes who fish who havent heard of 1770 and the off shore reefs, so his post is hardly going to create a run on the place
The same weekend spot 82 went out ,a group of guys from here went out, went through 500ltrs of fuel and got one red and a few hussar and these are guys regularly fish around the bunker group.
Theres a lot of barren areas between 1770 and fitzroy and a lot of boats regularly come home nearly empty.
The run on 1770 hasnt been created by reports on forums like ausfish but because 1770 now has a bitumen road and property developers taking an interest in the place.
There was a time when 50 or 60 small tinnies used to congregate off woodgate for the winter whiting run. Then the Pros realised there was a market for winter whiting and the trawlers used to target them before they came in and they busted the schools up so for quite a few years there was no whiting run for the locals. Even saw one come into a fishing boundary area with his rego covered cleaning them up. Same with the salmon run in Gladstone buggered by the pros nets
Might be best if you tidy up your own back yard first
    Cheers

Swano, you sound like the typical amateur fisho.

How about you guys have alook what a Pro has to do to meet the rules, and what he makes. Typical response I expected.

This is about protecting you guys as much as me. If you guys give your area away then watch the swell of boats increase.

I'm sure Loal Sunshince Coast local fisho would agree.
