Lightbulb Any one want to help some special Kids ?

    Hello all,
My name is Tony Stubbings & I have been involved with camp Quality now for the past 18 years. For those who doesn't know about camp Quality, we are an organsation supporting children living with cancer & their families. We are holding this years week long main camp at the currimundi sports & rec centre on the Sunshine Coast.

    www.campquality.org.au

We are hoping to have a fishing activity somehwere reasonable close to the Rec centre are are looking for some people who would be interested in coming along & showing the kids how to fish. They have really loved the fishing activities in the past.
If there is anyone out there who would like to help, please contact me on 0427 864 355 or send me an pm or email at rhinomate@yahoo.com.au

    Thanks for reading this.

Well done Tony. The recent Camp Quality day we held at the Moreton Bay Boat club was quite a success, and the smiles on the dials of the kids was magnificent. Please get behind Tony's cause..it is very worthwhile.

MAte I am always keen to help out with kids charities. I probably cant help teaching them to fish (the kids could probably teach me more!!) but I am always keen to help in any other way. Have you got a date and rough location in mind?

    Hey Greg,
Thanks for your support. I am still hearing what a brillant job the Moreton Bay Boat Club did, they really had a great time so thank you again.

    Hey Pin Head & TheRealAndy

Thanks so much for you reply & interest.
We are looking at having the fishing activity on Wednesday the 7th July from around 1030 to around 12 noon then lunch which you would be more than welcome in joining us all.
These times could be adjusted to suit though.

Lucky Phill has offered us 20 rod & reel combos to use which was brillant & very much appreciated.
I will keep in touch with you both.

Once again thank you very much.

    Hi Tony,

Can you tell me what is being planned? ie: are you going to fish off a jetty, or beach or are you hoping for a few boats to take kids out ( with one of the camp organizers naturally)

Are you planning to have the kids at different levels? How many kids? How to tie a line vs how to throw a cast net? There's a lot of territory one can cover, Sleepygreg, what was done MBBC?

    Hey Scalem,
What we are planning at the moment is just having a couple of fella's / ladies come & show the kids how to bait up, cast & fish. We are looking into where we can fish that is close to the Currumudi Sports & Rec Centre, I would say it would be land based & be tidal.
I will have a mini bus for the kids who have mobility issues. The rods will be already rigged to save time. Most of them will have fished before but all would be reasonably new to fishing.
There will be only one level of skill I would say. As Lucky Phill has given us 20 rod & reel combos to use so there would be 20 kids fishing.

Hope this has answered your questions, but please contact me if you need more.

    Thanks.

Re: Any one want to help some special Kids ?

    Brian (Scalem),

We had a day at the boat club where all the sections (Yachting, Cruising, Fishing) got together and had all the kids and their carers at the club. We gave them all the chance (depending on their mobility) to have a sail in a yacht, go for a cruise in a power boat, and have a fish off the clubs pontoons (not normally allowed, but we got special permission from the POB authority for this to happen). We had a BBQ for everyone, did a charity Auction, and each section donated a considerable amount of money to this worthwhile cause. And a big thanks to Shane Steer (Skipper of In The Black) for organising this event event along with Grant Billings, who runs our disabled kids boating program.

PS - the weather was crap, as we had planned taking them all over to Tangas on the many club boats that had offered their services (big boats so there was no safety issues), but we had to stay in harbour and the numbers of participants were lower than expected because of the weather. Those that turned up had a great day anyway.

    Cheers

Re: Any one want to help some special Kids ?

Tony, if you ever bring the kids up Gladstone way I am sure I can organise a boat or 3 and maybe even an island trip. (got a friend who bought one in the harbour area)

Always like helping the kids out...
I CAME INTO THIS WORLD KICKING, SCREAMING AND COVERED IN SOMEONE ELSES BLOOD. I HAVE NO PROBLEM GOING OUT THE SAME WAY.

Re: Any one want to help some special Kids ?

The way I see it, it can be an R&R just as much for the parents who look after sick children as it is for the kids to have a good day too.

My only show stopper is work where I am stretched to take any days off, so Weds are no good.

Otherwise I would look at it very closely. I already am part of a yearly kids camp, most years teaching teenagers how to water ski, which also has to come out of my annual leave in September. Very worth while, especially kids who are sick.

I hope you get the support whatever the outcome Tony.

    Hey NEWBY,
Thanks for the offer, much appreciated.
We don't go that far up as that's more the centrals region of Camp Quality. If your keen though, I can give your contact details to the central regions office.
    Thanks again.
