went for a run off the coast today and I had remembered to get a pic of the screen at 50m at speed. I was off the goldy and couldnt get speed any wider as it was too lumpy, but hereis a pic of my HDS10 at 27knots in 50m of water. Best I could take as I had to hangon a bit. Pic taken with canon SLR 1000D.

IMHO your transducer is mounted too high, angled forward too much and positioned too closely to the left hand hull strake. Ideally they should be mounted halfway between the strakes to minimise turbulance, just below the bottom of the hull (5 to 10 mm), and angled only very slightly forward.

it looks to be ok, but the only way to really tell is to flip it into the original colour scheme.
The 2 pics you put up which look to be better than my sounder, exhibit at least one trait that mine does,
in picture number 1 in the right hand window pane, very close to the the left pane you will see a lot of garbage down the screen. looks like you were moving then came to a stop.

yep thats right, I was travelling then thought of this post so I stopped, took out the camera and then started again. I am happy to tee up a day and get these working great if your interested. I am happy with mine but I know it can be refined a lot more.

I think that Lowrance should have someone prepared to come out ater install and comprehensively run through various settings.

thanks, I have had someone come out with me to help me sort it out, it was far worse than that before.
Changing the settings does not necessarily make the sounder work better, it adds filters to the sounding to hide what it is really being displayed.
Mine on a drift is perfect but at speed, only good for telling you the depth, yours seems to be working better, I would like to see it in the old colour scheme if you think of it one time your out..

Not sure if I mentioned it but I think it makes a difference. I am running a 1KW through hull tranny. In shallow water I get fish complaining about head aches and in deeper watewr I find it is very detailed.

Think I have a similar issue with my HDS5, anything over 20knots and the screen clutters up, have to back off sensitivity to 50-60 which is pointless as I miss a lot.
I think these units great but I do believe we need to learn more about them, they have a lot of potential.
I agree Mart, Have had good success with my unit and noticed the difference when fishing with mates using different sounders , We've always been able to locate and get amongst the fish however I feel there are a few niggles with unit which may even be tranny location in my case.
Getting a big bracket made up at the mo to try get tranny real deep.
Hi. On my latest boat it came with a transducer sliding bracket by Sail Master, aussie made. Just been fishing with a mate with a Lowarance HDS 10. Had a very blocky sonar reading at speed, a bit like cheap sounders had 10 years ago. Went into factory reset and it fixed the problem.
I am currently struggling with an issue with my Lowrance gear. I have recently over the past 3 months performed 2 software updates, anyway cant remember before then BUT the screen scrolls too slow at any depth over 10m. I am running standard scroll speed and 100% ping. I have been informed Lowrance will be releasing another update to fix this but I am hopeful. Can anyone check what speed their screen scrolls at depths over 30 m please.
