    Re: stabicraft 529 v barcrusher 530 compare ??

hi i have a 560 bc and we had a 115 yam 4stroke on it which went ok with up to three people in it but it strugled to lift nose of boat .we now have a 150 etec on it and it does perform much better 4 plus people no problem .lifts nose of boat easy and drives into sea better .good day going across morten bay crusies 30 knots at 3800 revs and can plane as low as 10 knots with a 15 1/2 x 17 rebel prop. the 560 bc handles a 150 hp engine well. goes very well in offshore conditions.

    Hi Patrol

I also have Surtees 5.5 Workmate that I imported myself from NZ earlier this year. I see you're in Bris - well now I hear that Surtees has appointed Leisure Marine at Capalaba as their Qld dealer and boats are on the way to Australia.

If you can still deal direct with the factory, I can assure you that the experience I had was excellent - their Sales Manager Phill is great to deal with and delivers on promises. If you want to have a look at the Surtees PM me and we can arrange, and I can fill you in on import issues (pretty easy, actually).

There is another advantage with the Surtees and that's the Surtees traiuler and the launch catch it includes as std - allows you to drive on/off launch and retrieve single handed.

Although I've only had mine offshore a couple of times so far, I haven't had the issues with spray flying round that most of the BC responses to your post have mentioned. We did a trip out of Evans Head a while ago in pretty ordinary conditions, into a solid SE swell and 15-18knots of wind on top of it, accompanied by mates in a Cruise Craft 625, and they got more spray on the screen and in the face than we did! Surtees reckon they've developed the hull and its now different to the BC's so maybe that's why.

I have a Suzi 115 on mine - goes real well!

See my earlier post for more details/pics etc:

    Re: stabicraft 529 v barcrusher 530 compare ??

In relation to power/speed for the 560; have been in a 560 with a 115 yam and can recall top speed on flat water was 53kmph. My 530 with a 100 will do 59kmph so if I were looking at the 560 I would go bigger hp than the 115.

Will the 530 handle bay chop? No problem. As I said earlier I use mine 90% offshore so bay chop would I think not be an issue.

Being able to shut the water ballast off in my bc would be good when creek launching without a ramp would be handy on occasion; but I find if the trailer can submerge about three quarters up the wheels then there is no problem floating the boat in shallow water. But on the other hand the bc has the transom door. On occasion I have fished alone and could have not imagine how to pull big fish on the boat if no transom door (probably something else to consider) And I have kids and the transom door is really handy getting them and the wifey in and out.

The trailer boat catch would be handy to drive on but the 3 speed winch is super easy too. I know a boat trailer catch can be put on my easytow trailer but to do this the 3 speed winch has to come off - has to be one or the other so I stuck with the winch. If anyone can confirm this would be great.

    Just my thoughts.
