Cockle Banks fire again.
Hit the Cockle banks today for a few hours with a cousin of my wife, who has a great boat but wanted some help on fishing the bay.
Tried early for a snapper but no luck, then shot out to the Cockles with the good old faithful Gulp Worms in Blood Red colour and fairly nailed em.
They were small and slow early on but around 10 am they really fired so needless to say we were cleaning whiting for a good while back home!
Good size fish too!
Its amazing how many whiting you can catch on the same 1cm of Gulp Worm!
Cheers

Yes Shane we got most of them in 5-6.5meters of water. The better fish were in deeper water. Plagues of sand flathead as well, 3 were over the 30cm mark.
Also as an interesting side note, we were twice bitten off with fish half in to the boat and only a head remained, I think there were some big tailor around.
Cheers

Hi Marty
No the Cockle banks are out in Moreton Bay south of the Pumicstone passage entrance. These are winter whiting, up in the Passage would be summer whiting. Good to hear you nailed some, there are a lot of good fish up that way.
