Thread: Electric Motor V Sounder

    Electric Motor V Sounder

I have my Lowrance Sounder and Electric Motor connected to the one battery. When I steer my leckie I get interference on the sounder screen.

I guess the easy option would be to add a small 12v to run the sounder but was wondering if any others had this issue.

    Re: Electric Motor V Sounder

Pete, is the transducer on the leccy or at the stern of the boat?
I have a small Humminbird and the leccy on one battery with the transducer on the base of the leccy.
    No problems at all.
The wiring for the leccy and the wiring for the sounder are both joined to a terminal, then that sits over the post of the batter.
If you have the seperate wires on straight to the post that could be an issue.
    Hope this makes sense mate.
    Cheers and thanks.

What sort of gauge wire are you using for the electric motor? Keeping the wires for the bow mount and sounder as far apart from the transducer cable is a good start. I've always run my sounder and bow mount on two different batteries and kept the transducer cable away from other electrical cables, never had an issue with interference.

Cheer's Matt. The cables are the standard ones that came with it (Watersnake).

I have the transducer cable running through the spiral leckie cable, perhaps that is an issue, it keeps everything neat but if u think about it it would be logical that there would be some surge.

Thanks, couple of things to try now

    Re: Electric Motor V Sounder

My sounders get run off a seperate battery then my leccy batterys. My leccy uses 2 x batterys and nothing lese is connected to them because hey are wired in 24 config.

    Cheers

I will try and post some pics of the set up mate.
I would get the transducer cable out of the spiral though, that would be a start.
    Cheers and thanks.
