    Goldie Monday 10 May

    Quick report. Went out with Fish the Deep on Monday for a 'half day' - 9 tourists on board + me - as the regular! Fished 42's and bagged out with 45cm Trag. Fished the 36 Fad and we pulled up a few dollies then came back in to 24's to see if any biteys were around. We had a few jelly beans and yakkas and got clobbered in the remaining 40 minutes of the charter and only managed one Mack Tuna. Charter came in and Matt said he would go out again if we wanted i.e Matt, AJ (crew) and me to try for the biteys on light tackle. Went back to the mark named Spence's (after Matts mate who gave it to him (on 24's N of Q1) and in just over two hours had loads of hits landing three Spaniards - best 12kg and four giant sized Mack Tuna (all but one returned intact).
    As we were using our floatline gear with BS ranging from 4kglb to 8kg all the fish took 10 to 20 minutes to land and the runs went out for 50-70 metres at a time with drags set around 1-2kg!
    Great fun and fish fell to Plastics (gulp) and livies. Probably had 10 bust offs as well. A great afternoon to follow a good morning.

    Hey Plato - Sounds like a great session - Spannos all on livies?

    2 Spanniards on livies and one on gulp - ripped around the bottom with 3/4 oz head on. Several bust offs on the gulp probably due to the light wire used.

    Re: Goldie Monday 10 May

    Hey Mick;
    It was a special afternoon with just the skipper Matt and AJ the crew keen to try something different. AJ had used plastics previously on the Spannos and been busted several times. The top of the mark was at less than 40m and the 3/4 oz head got down fairly quickly before being ripped back to the boat. AJ is the expert and has obviously had success before. The Spannos and Mac/Tuna were obviously herding the bait towards the surface as we had hits at all depths including gulp just left to drift on the surface. I was using livies as it seemed obvious and with a light ball and 8kg baitleader I didn't want to get near the bottom just in case I got a mean one.

    Fish the Deep usually has 8-12 fishing and other than a couple of floatlines has no real room for plastic fanatics especially as they usually fish the 36's, 42's and 50's according to current. We were in on the 24's due to a hot tip from the previous weekend AFTER we had filled the tourists with trag and dollies to take home.

    However, had a great season on the snapper last year and will be fishing bugsys, long tailed plastics and usual floatline tactics again this year on the 36's and 42's from July onwards (water still looks too warm for an early season start this year).

    They are a great team and you get good value for money with them.
    Cheers
    Plato
