Poverty Creek Track

HI,

I am thinking of heading to Poverty Creek on Bribie with some mates and was wondering what the 7km sand track is like heading to the campsite? Is there a good chance of getting bogged or is the track pretty good now? Also if someone could recommend a good place to launch a tinny from that would be great.

Hi Ongman - no-one's got back to you yet, so I'll give you my 2c worth - although my information's about 12 months old.

The sand track into Poverty Creek was pretty easy for me - I have a MWB Landcruiser, and I'm pretty sure was in 2H most of the time. The sand was nicely packed for the most part, with some soft bits in the corners.

We took the track up to the northern end of the island and it was a lot softer and harder going, but pretty good fun all the same.

There is no ramp at the camp ground at Poverty Creek, so unless you can lift your boat in, launch back at the ramps at Bongaree, Donnybrook or Toorbul and take the boat up by water.

I'm pretty sure the tracks were closed around Easter. Not sure for how long.

My son in law used the track about 3 weeks ago and dropped to the chassis in two places he tells me. Unknown how good a 4wd operator he is as this is his first 80 series landcruiser and 4wd. Army boy tho if thats a benefit for 4wd experience??
From my experiences on Bribie island a good dozen to 30 yrs ago driving the tracks regularly I found the island to have few real trouble spots and the sand is normally pretty firm even if under 2 feet of water. Once a track gets chopped up though it can be very sloppy. I have never had a problem accessing Poverty Creek area or Gallaghers Gutter. Lime Pocket by 4wd I think has been closed for a good many years as it was a quite slushy experience 25 yrs ago.
