In an old tackle box that has not seen the light of day for many a year l found these fizzers. A new set of hooks and bobs your uncle, so the saying goes. So off l go to see what effect if any they have on Awoonga Barras. New flooded timber was the target in Riverston creek. I try the large one first. Nothing, not a touch. So on goes the little one. I think it was the fifth cast Whamo... Gee that fish needs to see an eye specialist. A couple more casts and my first hookup for the day. Fence what fence? Who needs to see an eye specialist? That fence! Fish goneski. That’s ok at least I still have the lure. I travel further into the flooded forest. This new water level just amazes me. So does the red bellied black snake that wishes to join me! He seemed to have no fear and is happy wrapping himself around the outboard. Excuse me would you mind removing oneself from my boat!? All l get back is this tongue flickering back at me. Time to take action - Remove myself from boat. Yes as much as I love all the creatures that call Lake Awoonga home there are some that I don’t wish to meet, snakes being one of them. To the bank boy and be quick about it! I find a rather long stick and try and coerce the snake to find better lodgings. Its just about winter sunshine go and find a log somewhere! That’s it off you go... A very unhappy camper / snake disappears into the undergrowth and I continue on my quest. Its just about dusk now and I should be working my way out of the forest while there is still light. But as they say “just one more cast” I see the bow wave and feel the hit, I strike, and the line is singing as it leaves the reel. The water is only about a metre deep and this fish can only just get its head out of the water. A rather large lady is connected to my fizzer. Around one tree then another - Free spool time. The line continues to come off my reel “Hey stop I want my fizzer back!” No chance Fish and fizzer are long gone. The insects are descending and so is the darkness. Another day Another Awoonga experience . Bring on tomorrow
