Monduran, dam of a thousand casts and then some.

Headed up to monduran dam with my the misses for a few for a 3 nights r & r from friday just gone.
what a different dam it is now with all that rain, its massive with some great looking bays.

but the barra just didnt want to play, i tried every thing fished pretty hard every day but donuts all around for me and the misses.
we used xraps, slick rigs, bombers toads and every thing else in my box of tricks.
i got about 2 bumps, and my lady cast one right on to a barras head resulting in a massive swirl but no fish.
pretty dissapointed but oh well, its still a great place to relax.
every one i spoke to up thare was having the same luck, the guides were fishless for a few days.

one bloke told me that the guy from i fish was there 2 days earlier fishing with a local guide and they went fishless for the 4 days they were there, not sure how true it was but made me feel a little better.
the whole time i was there only heard of one bloke catching a fish.

some great looking water up the back of the north arm i wish i spent a bit more time up there as it looked the healthyest and the walmest.
fished jacks for a 6hr sesh nothing
fished no secret point got a bump and saw a boof
fished b but not much life
had a look in the bays in bird but didnt even see any life no bait or bugger all

i think i need more practice at fishing for these chrome beasts, think ill try and get up to this comittie meating in june to pick some of your brains and learn a bit.

im off now to eat my donuts and cry

    Thanks,
    Ellis

Persist, Ellis, persist - the worm will turn....

Had a run in 2008 of three consecutive trips for nada before smacking 'em in December....

Makes the next one into the net that much sweeter!

    Thanks for the honest report...

Thanks for the honest report Ellis, take comfort in the fact you are not the only one in the club, it just fuels the fire.
Look forward to seeing you at the gathering next month.

Thanks for the report Ellis, those donut trips hurt don't they! They certainly make you appreciate the next barra you catch, and savour the multiple fish sessions that come along if you put the time in.

And then, just when you think you've got them sussed, they will bring you back to earth again, by either totally ignoring your offerrings or destroying your tackle.

The highs and lows of barra fishing! Gotta love it

Thanks for the report Ellis. Most of us now what is like to go Mondy and come home fishless. I have mate who got a couple of barra his first trip to Mondy and then he has only got one fish on the next 6 trips between Mondy and Awoonga.
Sounds like you got the bug anyway and learning and hunting them down is more than half the fun. - cheers Richard.

Thanks Ellis. It doesn't take much to turn things around. We were there on the weekend as well and she was tough to say the least.

Yes we got a couple Ellis, but it was still very tough mate. Lots of tales of woe around the camp ground.

Shame you didn't get on to any Ellis ...... but unfortunately that's barra fishing & we are in the middle of a transition / recovery period - so any fish caught were going to be well earned !

Hope you can make the CM - there will certainly be a good flow of information & ideas

    Chris
Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!
