Have you noticed something fishy ?

    Hi all
Thought i would make a mention about some fish that are starting to turn up .
About two months ago a mate pulled a nice jew near lucinda and we all said straight away the jew must of been lost because we havn't seen em for years.

We went fishing a few weeks back and i ended up hooking a nice jew and the young fella on me mates boat dropped a big jew , we sat back on the beach that night and talked about and the last time me mate had seen jew like this was when he was 5 years old and out fishing with his grandad .

To top it of me mate went again last weekend and scored another two really good jews

Now to us it's a good thing these type's of fish are showing up because normally down on this end of the channel we have not seen these fish for years , something is changing we think , i also talked to a pro mate who hasn't seen any jew but he was getting a few king salmon around the front of lucinda which is very odd!?

I would be interested to hear if anyone else has noticed the return of a few types of fish that havn't been around for a while , we kinda think it's the redution in trawlers that's brought on the change? . I don't know much about the jew but when it comes to King Salmon you need prawns in the water for them to do there thing and good rain which we have had the last few years.

    Cheers

Not exactly a return of a fish species, but the Barramundi that was caught in the Coomera River last year was pretty odd. Even though it most likely escaped from the impoundment near there during heavy rains, it was still surprising.

I've noticed an increase in baitfish in Coombabah Creek in the last few weeks though. Don't know if it's seasonal, but mullet and herring seemed to be everywhere.

I don't know too much about the jewies in the channel but the king salmon are definitely back, havn't seen these sort of numbers for years, maybe if they get rid of the pro crabbers or at least limit them in the channel we might get the muddies back as well

Mouse that's good to hear mate , i have noticed with the prawn there are a least four age groupings right now , so it should only get better for the Kingys.

As for the channel crab factory it's still pumps out good numbers , crabs are there still you just have to change the way you do it , better still i will show you if your in the area, i only fish will four pots nows regardless of extra persons in tinny and still manage to bag 6 to 8 on most drops

    Cheers

Careful lads, certain people will begin claiming that it's the product of increasing green zones.
