78cm snapper Redcliffe
Gedday all,
Headed over to some new ground at Redcliffe after work this morning with my mate Bretto. Got to the ramp about 7:30 and were fishing by 7:45. Pretty slow day, 1 under flatty and squire, 1 nice flatty dropped at the side of the boat and then Bretto's placcy get's smashed by an obviously decent fish. The sound we all want to hear of a drag screaming and Bretto was well and truly on!! After a couple of blistering run's, Brett starts to win the battle and the critter is finally heading back to the boat. A couple more lunges by the beast and then we finally see it." Bloody hell mate, looks like a big PB!!! Into the enviro net and amid much wahooing she measure's at 78cm's and weighs 5.5kg's!!! Just under the best one we have got out there but a major upgrade for Bretto!! Happy day's :grin::grin: Roll on winter!!
Cheers...Terry...........
ps. Just out of interest, she had the remains of nice size sand crab in it's gut when we cleaned her along with some mussels and other shelly bit's and piece's. Might be a secret new live bait!!lol

Good job boys,
you are right, it is a sweet sound to hear the line peeling of at a blistering speed, you never get sick of hearing it.
Hope you get some more soon.

Re: 78cm snapper Redcliffe
The big ones will take half of a peeled legal size sand crab stitched up on a 6-10/0 hook no worries at all. even the smaller size ones will have a go and the pickers usually leave it alone.

Re: 78cm snapper Redcliffe
Nice work!
My PB snapper is/was also 78cm, and was loaded with small crabs. I caught it out at Harry's, and many of the legal snappers I pull from there are full of small crabs. I've tried a variety of the different SP crabs to no effect, but I may not be getting them close enough to the bottom. Next time out, I'm thinking I might try a SP crab on a light jig head, but with a heavier running sinker to get it closer to the bottom?
Cheers!

Thamks for the replies men. For all of you in thrall of where we are, you can see the beach at Scarby from there.
Stroadman, that beard is a cracker but more like witness protection program than fashion....Yes it is my mate Bretto!!(I'm much better looking!!)
Masterdusky,
We saw a yak pass us today from Scarby headed to Bribie in 15knt's of s-s/e!!! Big balls or big friggin biceps!!! Trip down (wind) would have been ok but the trip home!! A very hard bastard or had organised a lift from the island back home!!
Bottom line is (and I say this with a gutfull of Wild Turkey...my mate's a concretor...) Snapper season should be a cracker.. If you have a spot that has worked for you in the past, give it a crack this year...it might go O.K...2008/9was very ordinary for us but this year seem's more like 2007.....
Cheers...........Terry..............

I hope you are right Terry, it will be a GR8 season if it is anything like 2007, might even see decent schools as close as Wello:shocked:
Trouble is there are fish like yours around that catch you sleeping in between bites, then just when you think you are having a quiet day ....WHACK! I lost 2 decent fish recently. You guys stayed connected. Well done!!
