Serious bragging rights there!
What an awesome story that would be for the grandkiddies....
A rather odd/bizarre catch, a lady has caught a Marlin Broadbill off a beach at Shellharbour NSW, there is a photo of it in the local paper, and my son actualy saw it, kind of an odd catch for the beach I would reckon, it was only small, but I would reckon it is probably the only one ever caught from land anywhere.
Serious bragging rights there!

Cheers and thanks.

I saw that pic Noelm,
I put up the attachment for you....
What an awesome catch..!!....That lady should have bought a lottery ticket that day!..

I was kind of wondering how long before people start saying she should have thrown in back because it was so small, but I reckon that fish off the shore anywhere is some mean catch, I guess it must have been lost or something.
That would go straight on my wall as a mould....something to remember/admire for years!
Once in a lifetime capture right there..!
Pete
yep, the beach it was caught on is right near my place, it is an unusual capture on a beach that's for sure.
good luck to here, what a surprise, my old stamping ground, you just don,t know whats in store till you try, probably caught on a whiting hook, cheers, kevy.
A bloke here in Coffs caught one about the same size a few years ago in 9m of water on a floated pilly - caused a stir up here too when it happened!
Kevy, seeing as you know the area, it was on South Shellharbour beach, right near the shallows (surfing spot) end.
I would have thought that any beaky would have cut through most small leaders. Wonder what line and rig she was using.
As for letting it go - well a photo is good enough if not eating it and if it lives and grows up big good luck to it. If it is dead it is dead so be it.
Bloody amazing to see how long teh beaks on teh small ones are- amazed they can swim.
awesome catch, and right near one, well 3 of my favourite haunts, spearfishing/line fishing around the blue metal loader, surfing at shallows, but i was never lucky enough to catch a billfish.
Do you know whic side of shallows it was caught on? Just wondering if it was near my favourite spot there, from the sand, it looks like she was fishing on the north side??
Found one freshly dead Broadbill Swordfish on the beach here 25k's south of Coffs a few years ago.
Is there a longline fleet nearby, and is there a size limit?
This is what I asked myself............
Dunno about a Marlin Broadbill though, guess you could sell it for scrap:grin:
Great fish though, definitely straight to the poolroom!
Wow! She's got bragging rights forever now.
According to the news, there was a billfish in the Gold Coast Seaway early this year. They said a guy hooked it from the rock wall there, and it cut through his leader as it jumped. I dunno how much truth there is to it though.
Cheers,
Kaidon
