    didnt I feel stupid

When I bought an Engel fridge we got a heap of gear with it. Amongst the goodies was a clock thermometer unit. It comprised of a sender unit that goes in the fridge and the clock/ thermometer part that goes on the table or wall.
It came with batteries and between the battery and the connection in both the sender and the reciever was a small piece of plastic that you removed so it gets voltage.
I got the book to set it up and nothing would work as it was supposed to. I pulled all the batteries out checked them, replaced them tried them in a torch and put them back as stated but still no go. Hit the reset and the figures gave a slight flick but that was all.
By this stage I was starting to get a bit pissed off. So I removed the batteries and waited 3 hours and put them back in the order as stated but still no good.
Any way I was going to take it back then I had a real close look at the face.
Over the face there was a piece of plastic film with the digital 8888 printed on it for the time, ambient temp, and fridge temp.
Pulled the plastic face cover off and guess what ….the real digital display works like a champion.
Didn’t I feel stupid…………..but not as stupid if I'd actually taken it back :-)

    Yeah Bear
Reckon only a shiela would come up with the idea of sticking a false clear plastic cover over the front with printed numbers on it.
How did you go with that fishing around Curtis island. Those maps help any?
Havent seen you post any snaps yet.

    Re: didnt I feel stupid

Would have been real embarrassing if you drive 100km to get it fixed.

I went to fix a steam cleaner the other week.
Bloody thing wasn't getting hot at all.
Poor bugger waited a month for me to be in town.
Turned out that someone turned the thermostat right down.
A months wait to get fixed and 15 seconds to fix.
And it's not surprising how often things like that happen.

How did you get on with the snapper leads Bear??
    All sorted yet??
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good

Gladstone trip is all go go go for Sept/Oct. Havent set the dates exactly we will go around the weather. Yes those maps are great! Thanx again Mick! Dont worry, as the trip gets closer there will be more questions and of course pici's.

Finga- havent gotten around to doing anything about the leads yet. Will let you know soon. Been away on a couple of fishing trips and now busy, busy with work. Was speaking to the uncle last weekend about which way to go about it. I will chase him up.

    Re: didnt I feel stupid

If you use it as a freezer, or have the combi keep the sender in the fridge part or the battery will freeze and you'll start scratching your head again.........

    Re: didnt I feel stupid

No mate I dragged it out of the drawer after reading your post and checked the bateries with the multimeter and they both read 1.5 volts so stuck it back together and it worked , but now its sh%t again . Its been dodgy from the start . I should check there's not a secondary plastic film ! .

You know that when you put the batteries in the 3 in the receiver go in first and then the two in the sender.

    Re: didnt I feel stupid

Yeh I pulled it apart again thismorning and give them five minutes and done the battery in the receiver first and the transmitter second and left them to be mates next to each other all day , when I got home I stuck the transmitter in the fridge and so far all good . Maybe they got over their ploblems and moved on.
