If you boys saw me try to cast an overhead, then you would understand the safest thing would be the barra. It ain't pretty.

Tiagra 50s are a little difficult to cast Steve:grin: Especially when you strapped to a harness.

Pretty would not be the word I'm looking for.

Smart Ars3! I am just teaching myself to cast a baitcaster, so any overhead is ugly. What you are suggesting is not a gun, but a cannon:shocked:

He he he. I remember a few years back when I first fished Monduran that I loaded myself up with an elephant gun to tackle these things.

A Wilson Live Fibre 20kg PNG bass stick with a Blacksheep 300......you'd need Popeye arms just to cast that outfit around the sticks for more 20 minutes.

That being said, you never ever felt undergunned:cheesy:

funny how times have changed Paul
...... my first impoundment barra trip to Faust involved the use of a a suped up calcutta 400 (50lb braid) & a black bass rod built on a calstar blank - certainly an elephant gun

    now I'm often casting a 7kg spin rod with a 2500 size reel & 20lb braid.
I still have a lightish 50lb outfit ...... but its the least one used

Give a man a fish & he will eat for a day !
    Teach him how to fish
& he will sit in a boat - & drink beer all day!

Why so heavy Chris? Hang on, I just answered that:undecided: I still think I am a chance of landing a metre + on the bass gear, but it would need to be in relatively clear water. I stood no chance in the tight stuff.
