Hit the southern Bay Islands today with up and coming ABT'er Grayson Fong.
Been begging Grayson to get me onto some bream action on surface lures after several dismal attempts, and a few close shaves on my first.
Redcliffe drew a blank on surface last session so we headed out of Cleveland and headed over to Peel Island, got onto a few bream and i got my first on a Megabass Dog X-jr even though it was undersize.
The water was so clear you could see the bream following the lures and a few times one comes thru and nails the lure on the pause, but they were a bit finicky. Often the pike would come through the bream as they were not so shy.
We then got onto a patch of squid and i got a little feed of them before resuming on the bream. It was maybe a little too glassed out for too much action on the bream, the bloody pike kept beating the bream to it, i must have got 15 odd pike in the end!
On the way back we came across some bait getting busted up and got a few trevally and tailor so was a good little session overall with half a dozen bream roughly.
I don't ever keep any bream so happy with squid for dinner, yum!
Mick.
