    Replacement Outfit for the Bay...

During a Peel Island session last Saturday I accidently knocked a deadstick rod out of its holder during the excitement of a big hit on the rod I was working...

I watched in disbelief as my Egrell S2 and Twinpower 2500 disappeared into the depths. Worst of all the big hit on my other rod turned out to be the mother of all grinners!

Anyhoo, I am now looking at a replacement outfit and I am keen for suggestions. My budget is $350 (as I couldn't stand loosing another $600+ combo!). Ideally I would like a 6'6" to 7'2" rod either 2-4kg or 3-5kg matched to a 2500 size reel.

ATM I am thinking about a Berkley Dropshot rod and Daiwa Tierra or Exceler. I need something pretty light for the plastics I throw but reasonably tough as I fish the bay most weeks....

Any thought/ideas welcome....I will probably make a purchase tomorrow night at church (Tackle Warehouse)...

owch! geeeezz Pete that's tough luck! I'm sure the fella's at church will be able to help - a session of counselling and empathy followed by some retail therapy sure to help ease the pain.

3-5 kg? I picked up a T curve in that weight, but it would top out your budget - what about a blades n tails or the wilson has put out a fresh range under the ATC lable I think - they look very nice and within budget too. I know Quantum have a new range of spin reels that certainly look the goods. Swano has been flogging one in the 3000 size for over twelve months and can't seem to kill it, not sure of its designation but again, would fit into the budget. I've just picked up a new Penn conquer in a 5000 good looking thing, they might do one in a 3000, and budget would be pretty close. just gotta get out and use it!

    all the best

    That is not good mate.
I have exactly the same combo and would loose the plot if it went over the edge.
I know the boys at Church will look after you, but to get close to what you had second hand might be the go.
I have bought and sold plenty of gear through here and a couple of other sites.
Some of the gear has been excellent. I just picked up a near new Tierra 2500 for $140 delivered.
So that would leave you with nearly $200 for a rod.
    Good luck Peter.
    Cheers and thanks.

Mate, I am having an outstanding run out of my Berkley Dropshot 7' 2-4kg rod coupled with a Shimano Symetre 2500 reel. Include the good quality braid on the reel and you will spend around $320 or so. You could step up a tad to a Pfleugar Trion 7' 2-4 paired with a Saros 2500 and braid for about $340 or so and it will give you a little more drag pressure at the end of the day, but how far can you push a 2-4 or 3-5kg rod?

I agree with Lost near Bribie, in fact I bought a twinpower from him and it is great, some really good second hand gear on this site and I have bought heaps.

I would be looking at a Starlo Tournament Litespin 2-4kg or Midspin 3-5kg locally for around $140.00 delivered. For a reel I would go online and pick up a 3000 sized Stradic (about the same size as a 2500 Daiwa) for $145.00 US delivered.
I have taken Snapper to 80cm on a Litespin /Stradic 3000 combo. It will throw light weights but has plenty of reserve stopping power

LOL - my 'second' outfit is the 7'2" 2-4kg Berkley Dropshot and Symetre 2500!

    Thanks for the other ideas...

Call me a snob, but I prefer to buy new. I have bought second hand before and just picked up someone else's problem...

there is some twit on the for sale boards that has a brand new in box Tierra 2500 for sale.....he wants $200 for it but wont answer anyone who makes an offer on it.......maybe you could get him to sell it for a reasonable price.....has been on the boards for about twelve months now. He keeps bumping it up..so he must be reading the forums.

I appreciate the sympathy Paul, and your kind offer....however I am heading to church tonight and have managed to increase my budget to $400, so I'm kinda looking forward to selecting a new outfit...
