Any joy using OMOTO Reels. Reef/Offshore?

JUst bought a new OMOTO which is basically an AVet copy. Read a lot about them first and seen an Alan Tani Strip down and comment thread in the USA.
    Anyone using them and happy?
Bought this OMOTO VS 12 in left Hand version for my darling who loves reef fishing but is fully left handed when it comes to reels. (Incidently theres not much choice in good quality reels in this size and style to choose from.

My stable includes Saltiga Z40 Avet MXL. Saltist 30T, all right hand so I'm used to good Tackle.

    Anyway here we go

    Cheers

Hope you have better luck than me. Bought a GTR. It shat itself on the first fish (small spanish) and I sent it back. It has been many months now and still haven't got it back, despite weekly calls to the dealer. Keep getting told they are still working on it. How hard can an anti reverse be to fix?

I would never buy one again.

I bought a VS10 and am really happy with it. Caught a few small mackeral with it and so far so good. I was also impressed with the Alan Tani assessment of a reel that I would normally not consider. Its a very good copy of an excellent design and for a ebay price of $120 super value. A cast control is the only mod I would like with this little reel but I will mag it myself.

Yep Mine is the VS 12 I think its called. These and a new 16 size seem the top of their range and as such are great value . Got the lefty for the wife at $122.00.

Bearing in mind that most of the known brands sell everthing from crap to crown jewels its no different with Omoto.

The seller was Mo s, but they have been harrassing the rep and importer who seem to be the problem. Will be seeking a refund and buying something better.

Still would never buy one again.

John does the line lay itself on or do you have to direct it yourself? Havent used reels like this before.

The line lays up itself as with any overhead or conventional reel as this style is called. All brands are the same in this respect unless they have a level wind facility. The vast majority of fishos use these reels without levelwinds though especially in bigger reef or offshore or trolling reels. The majority of smaller reels in this style are known as baitcasters nand they almost always have level winds.

    Hpoe that helps
