Hi all, just want to know if anyone has any early pics mid 1970s on the bruce harris 20ft sharkcats.i currently have a 20ft bruce harris sharkcat runabout and need to know the age of the boat? i think its at least mid 1970s. iam currently rebuilding this cat from the ground up,soda blast, paint, new stringers, floor, fuel tanks, side pockets, windscreen, etc ,twin 150hp evinrudes, trailer is also being total rebuild as well including galv.
is Bruce Harris still with us?and what he up to these days?
i try to post a picture of my boat.

    Re: Sharkcat info

Ye mate id say 70's maybe even late 60's. Because of the low windscreen and very high bowrails. My old man had a late 60's 20fter just the same one of the first built it was called Cool Cat it was green originally and my old man painted it yellow. It had twin 135's.

The a great old hull those ones they are heavy and need heaps of HP but the ride is second to none!!

What do you tow her with??

Not many around nowadays, you cant see any yellow under that white can you??

Good luck with the project youv got yourself a legendary hull.

Oh yeah Bruce Harris is still around I hear.

    Cheers..

Dead ringer for a 1989 hull that I had until early last year... We had the cabin version and it was a 23', but nether the less still the same hull shape to a "T".

Try ripping Grand Marlin a PM ... hes the guru on cats ...

    Re: Sharkcat info

Hi there, i tied to tow it with my 09 hilux and it felt it!!
i have strip some paint of and found 4 diffrent colours, gel coat colour is yellow then blue, then dark red, then white. thats why its been soda blasted this week!
i have weighed it on a weighbridge and it went 2.6tonnes with a set of 140 v4 evinrudes and no fuel. trailer weight was 860kg. the hull weight should be around 1300/1400kg. i have strip it back on the stringers and found it to be in need of repair.very common (age) i will post a photo.
this modle had fuel tanks above the floor on the sides next to the seats.going to put them under floor.
has any one rode in a 20ft sharkcat and what was the ride like? didnt get a chance as the engines where not working and not worth spending $$$$ on.

Hey Adam .... Because of the weight the ride is quite soft, but as already been suggested, you'll need some grunt to get her to boogy ... pushing 3 ton (wet) with a pair of 140's is doable but still a big ask especially with twin hulls ....

Definatly no that late model mate see the way the front of the hulls are a curve where they sweep up to the gunnel rubber, the later hulls have straight fronts. The low screen is also another indication thats shes the very early model...

Hi,the twin 140hp are now been taken off and will not be going back on! i have purchased a set of 2001 johnson 150hp v6 outboards from the states.much cheaper over there:grin: i bought the set with 300hrs use( $5500usd),and there are counter rotaters as well. being v6s this should be enough grunt to do the job.i hope.
let me know your thoughts Adam.

Hi Dean1 i was reading a post awhile back and i think you posted a 20ft sharkcat with a couple of photos. that boat looked like the sister boat to my 20ft cat. do you have any idea what age that boat was and also what dollars did they want for that cat?
    thanks Adam.

    Re: Sharkcat info

Hey Adam the 150's you are putting on her will make her boogie no doubt. My old mans had 135's V4's and it flew with them he reckoned, was good for 40 kts.

Yeah those pics were at Holt Marine, it didnt have a price on it but the owner wanted to sell it apparantly.

I had a pic of the old boys in my old computer, ill scan them when im back home later this week. His was identical with the high bowrails. Greg P owned it once as well.

Heres the pic of the other 1.

Dean - I am looking for a 600/660 (later model with fg stringers etc) but they are as rare as. The old 20fts are just too heavy for what I want to handle and afford to run myself.

Thanks for the photos, that sharkcat is almost the same as the cat that i have.the deck looks the same sponsons underneath is the same as well. i think that boat would have been made the same time mine was.think its around 1976 to 1978.
    whats your thoughts.Adam.

And bloody ridiculously heavy too .... there used to be a bloke down near Ramsgate in Sydney just down the road from Mascott used to tow his with about a 5 ton truck ... thank god KC's came to the light of day in the mean time ....

Speaking of 1770, thats ideally the area that we want to come back to but a SC vs KC ... KC wins hands down these days (all except for ride in very heavy weather IMO) .... but then again I'll go back to alli in that part of the world and not have to worry so much about scraping the hull ....

Yeah they are a good boat those 660's. I have been thinking that may be my next ride possibly. There was one on boatpoint a few weeks ago with opti's on it, it was rough but had 50k on it.

mid 1990's im pretty sure they are.

There isnt many around i have to say..
