    2010 Touchy Rod......

    Hi people,

as some of you would know, each year there is a small fishing comp in Brisbane and part of the event is the Fred ' Touchy ' Wood Memorial Trophy, awarded to a Bream catch of either secret weight or total weight.

There are number of people involved in building this rod and so far this year we have finga ( timber grips ) and myself thus far.

The event is usually staged in July / August, so plenty of time to finish. Next comes a X wrap, then guides and decals.

Rod blank is out of the Hastings family and is a Pioneer UR60UL.

Pics below and updates as they come to hand.

    Cheers Phill

sorry about the focus in this one.... doh !!!!! :undecided:

Love those timber grips....a true work of art. What timber did you use Scott? Looks a bit like Cypress, or an old Kauri branch.

Well that's a good question Greg.
Short answer is I can't remember as that was one of many made in a 'creative splurge' years ago.
Thinking back it could actually be a bit of peach or apricot I found in a paddock.
The finish is upteen coats of a marine decking oil.
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good

Congrats to you fellas for the time and heart you put into providing the prize. Every loving coat of varnish is a mark of respect . It certainlly is more than a rod, it's a testimonial and I'm sure we would all be honoured to win such a trophy. Its a big effort from you fellas and I'm sure Touchy would be proud as punch of you. I couldn't remember if Mrs Woods was there last year to present it as she has in past years? I can only hope my wife would pay such a fitting tribute to myself by honouring the event as she has. All round top marks to all

Thats a very nice start to the trophy for this year. I certainly like the timber work. It gives thre rod some character. Is Webby organising it again or do we need someone else to put their hand up to help out. Its a great M&G and the rod will be a big plus
