MGFC Billfish Bonanza

Congratulations to the crew of Reel Capture who scooped most of the prizes at the Bonanza. They tagged 5 blacks and sailfish on 8kg as well as weighed a 14kg wahoo. This gave them the calcutta money, champion boat over 7m and Jeff Oates who was the angler for 5 of the six billfish as well as the hoo took out the male angler and light tackle angler categories. Jeff was on the surface bait and Dave Granville was on the sinker bait and Jeff was just luckier to have more bites than Dave. To help complete a near clean sweep for SCGFC boats and anglers Ymer came second with 2 tagged sailfish and 2 tagged black marlin with Dan Brooks winning junior with a sailfish and Aimee Brooks winning lady angler with a tagged black marlin. Helping the SCGFC win nearly every trophy Tony Cross' Mustang trailerboat Out Quoting took out the under 7m class with a tagged marlin and a 19kg barracuda. Tony's offsider got the barracuda so went away with the champion angler other species and the only things we didn't win as a club were champion angler heavy tackle which went to the angler off Big Business from Redcliffe with a tagged heavy tackle black marlin about 70kg and 3rd prize in the calcutta which went to Dream Catcher also from Redcliffe for some tagged sailfish. Well done to the MGFC committee for another well run and successful tournament.

thanks for the report smithy , heard yas going at it on the radio out there yesterday, sounded like a hot bite for the first 2 hours .

we enjoyed the comp and it was good to see jeffo win it! he certanly knows how to find those complicated critters? i would recomend fishing the mooloolaba comp to anyone as its a great comp to learn the art of billfishing.
