Thanks Rosco you dog. Calling me a nerd. I think they were all found. I was listening a little bit hear and there. I know they found 2 then switched to the footy. I think they found the other two. Four in total.

    Cheers

Edit: By the way I think they found them all alive

One jet skier was killed and the other is in Redcliffe hosiptal. The four crew on the boat are safe, albeit coping with the mental strain of the incident.

That is strange. I was listening to the Victoria Point, Raby Bay and Beenleigh Coast Guard and I think the people who where involved in some sort of incident. (Not sure what it was) Were taken to Victoria Point to a waiting ambulance. That was about an hour ago. I tuned in about 7 pm and heard the search taking place around 9pm I think everyone was found.

Maybe it does relate to the jetski incident. There was a chopper involved in the search and I think it might of metioned scarbourah or however you spell it energex helicopter.

I am fairly sure everyone was found alive. One was fairly ill but I think the others were fine.

    Cheers

There was a major SAREX for training on in the southern end on the bay yesterday and last night. Dazz_1975 it involved squadrons including trhe ones you mentioned and other bases. All for exercise only mate. This was probably what you heard.

Hehe'. I feel like a fool. When I did here it they did mention a turtle stuck in a crab float and rope. The chopper was lighting up the turtle apparently for 5 minutes and then the chopper said we have to get back to the search. Not sure if the turtle part was for real but they did give the gps co-ordinates for it to be checked out in the morning.

Dont feel that way dazz_1975. To the inexperienced listening in, it may have sounded very real. Thats how they run a SAREX. As real as possible for training. When listening in you may hear the words "for exercise" or "exercise only". They are used regularly so people know it is an exercise only. But then the inexperienced dont know that so they think it is the real thing. Training like this has to be done to hone skills for when the real doodoo hits the fan.

Re: search for missin boaties morton bay

The incident was - 2 young fellas decided it was a good idea to leave a party at Newport waterways at Redcliffe to take a Very stupid jaunt on a wave runner & do donuts, jump boat wake & crisscross the leads into newport at about 3.30 am Saturday morning. The Jetsk\wave runner was Black in colour with No reflective stripes on it - Unfortunately a large Cat was setting off for a days fishing & hit the waverunner - the driver of the waverunner was killed & the passenger was pulled uncon from the water - by the crew of the boat involved. From there the police were called and the rest started. The chopper & Coast Guard & other boats involved were searching for the waverunner as it caused a risk for other boating traffic that were departing Newport in the dark (there was a fishing Comp on yeasterday and the early traffic was heavy). All Boats departing Newport were made aware & asked to proceed at slow speed with spots on & assist with the search as they make their way out. The Police had the Scarborough Ramp closed off as a crime scene for several hours(4am onwards) & the cat invovled tendered to the public pontoon there. My heart goes out to the poor fellas in the cat - the driver was taken to hospital in deep shock & the other crew looked devestated & were left to just sit in the back of the cop cars for hours after what they had just gone through.Lets hope that the other young fella on the wave runner is ok. Maybe there should be new regs on lights on wave runners - would have saved a life and the destruction of the others involved. ( A mention to the boys at Redcliffe Coastguard - well done on a horrible day & thanks for letting us use your dock!) Sammy

Mate lights would not have helped i think. These guys were pissed and riding a jetski at 3.30am, the odds were against them right from the minute they made the decision to do it.. You cant regulate against blatant stupidity.

Sadly, the young guy who is still alive is friends with one of my mates. I dont know him personally though. Hope he pulls through. Hard way to learn a lesson about your own stupidity.

Re: search for missin boaties morton bay

The guys I really feel for are the ones in the Noosacat. One of the things you dont expect to happen is to be broadsided by a jetski at 3.30am in the morning when heading out of the leads to go fishing. At least the unlit tinnes arent moving so you stand 'some chance' of avoiding them.....and the guys in the cat would have been observant as you have to avoid the crab pots that other considerate souls put in the channels between the leads. Not a pleasant experience to have someone smash emselves up at your expense, leaving you to pick up the pieces. (yes...have been there). Some people in this neck of the woods seem to think they are invincible and above the law.....just because the Peninsula is (relatively) quiet compared to the GC And SC...they think they can get away with anything. The next big boat that is driven by a skipper full of juice and finishes up high and dry on scarbie reef or aground on the mud near the Newport leads wont be the first (by a long shot) and certainly not the last (unfortunately), while the attitude to the laws of the land and sheer bluddy commonsense are as they are!

    Jumping off soapbox now.

Re: search for missin boaties morton bay

After reading these threads last night i contacted a mate of mine who lives in Scarborough and owns a Noosa Cat and whom regularly goes out at that time. Sure enough, it was him that unfortuneately was involved in this terrible accident.

To say that he and his fellow crew is 'devasted' is an understatement. First they knew of incident is a big bang, they thought they hit a log and went back and found jetski and two persons.

The skipper in question is very experienced and was doing everything in his control to ensure safe journey.

Classic example of how a simple act of stupidity can change the lives of many instantly, in this case one life lost and perhaps another with the second guy reportedly not in a good way and 4 lives marked with horrific memories of incident.
