Don't know your budget but I am selling a 2008 Southport 28 Express.

Is US made and has everything you get in a Whittley but built better with a softer ride, and more stable at rest.

3 berths and loaded with everything from air-conditioning, separate head compartment, hot showers, BBQ, refrigerator and wrap around clears.

Includes state of the art Furuno Navnet 3D electronics, autopilot and radar.

    On sale for $149K.

    As new.

    Cheers!

      G'day,

      Retro-fitting bouyancy foam:

It doesn't really work. This is complicated so bear with me.

The deck plates are sealed to the hull so inserting slabs is not an option.

      That means using pour foam.

Before you use pour foam you have to seal the hull with an impermeable barrier to prevent any water getting between the hull and the foam - otherwise the hull will rot. How do you do this with the floor in place?

After the barrier is in you fill the hull with foam and if you don't use enough it doesn't push the floor up and if you use use too much it does and cracks the floor and causes havoc.

When flotation is installed OE it is done before the floor plates (weather deck) is installed.

I don't think the Whittley Sea Legend can be given either basic or level flotation at a reasonable cost.

I think that if safety is a priority in your boat start looking at Haines Signature later models.

      Regards,

      White Pointer

        Re: Whittley Sea Legend

If the hull is solid glass and the floor and stringers are all properly glass coated wood or are plastic to start with say, why would the insertion of poured foam cause rot...I mean boats have condensation building up under the floors in any event and perhaps foam makes it harder to air out (I can see that) but surely a proper glassed and flow coated surface is pretty much ok....and why wouldnt block flotation do the trick...there are articles on how to do it properly.

        Cheers
