    stuffed battery?

I might have stuffed a battery, it is an old 650cca 4wd one that still had uses here but not in the car or boat when on the water, but i do use it in the boat for start ups and the like at home.

I left it in the boat this last 2 months, disconnected for most of the time, went to cycle the engine trim and tilt and got nothing and a voltage of 9.5 ish, swapped it out for one of the good battery's and put the old battery straight onto the smart charger at 15amps.

After 5 minutes the charger threw out error beeps so I pulled the caps and could see the plates high and dry but still wet looking, topped it up agitated it some then tried again at 12amps for yet another error code.

Tried the de-sulphate setting for 4 hours until i got sick of that then set it to 6 amps and it accepted this charge for 14 hours overnight.

This morning I checked on it and it was QUITE warm with 13.5V at the terminals, disconnected the charger, now 1.5h later the battery is at 10.5v.

Does it sound like I trashed what was left of this battery or will forcing a decent charge into it now bring it back, I don't want to blow it up or tax my charger...just confused over what I have got now, for instance this battery was used inside during the last night time blackout of 3 hours to run the tv for a while which draws over 200watts and I don't want it going splat! in the lounge room if it even could or tax the boats charging electronics/whatever.

    Bin it already?

    thanks

Thanks mate I think your right, i just tested it again and it's now down to just under 10v, most of the nights charge must have been turned into heat, oh well.

    Re: stuffed battery?

I recently had my boat batteries tested at battery world as one was not charging fully and the other would take a couple of days. The 1st one was stuffed and the 2nd needed a lot more water over the plates and now seems to be fine. Got a new sealed battery from BIAS for around $210.
