I have a258 inhull and its good ,mate has 260 on transom (lowrance lcx112),mine reads deeper and clearer but I think the head unit (585) is better. 260 is bigger aand later tech so I would think it would be more effective

Mate I have had the TM 258 on a 585 and now the TM 260 on a Raymarine C120. They are both excellent however the only difference I noticed is that the TM 258 was much more sensitive on 200hz compared to the TM 260. Although the TM 260 is more sensitive on 50hz than the 258. So it just depends on whether you are fishing deeper and need the 50hz to be more sensitive or in shallow water where you use 200hz more.

Personally I think that the 585 with the TM 258 was a far more detailed sounder than the Raymarine with the TM 260.

    Just my thoughts.

thanks mate, what depth were you running the 200hz to before you changed over to 50hz, was looking for more detail at 100-160m but will only go to 350m

    cheers

    Skipalong,

Generally up here in the NT we don't fish really deep as its too far off shore. I have used the 200hz effectively in 80m in the Apsley Straight and not had any problems and still shown great detail. I would expect that just over 100m would be the limit so if your going to be fishing that deep then the TM260 would be the go.

Evan though the TM 260 is a broadband TX I didn't notice any great difference over the 258 but it may have been due to the Furuno 585 been such a good head unit. Still the best picture I have ever seen on a sounder of that range.
