Re: Voip Info Needed ???
Mate I use pennytel - www.pennytel.com.au
It cost me $18.88 a month which gives me unlimited calls to anywhere in Australia + free calls to quite a few international countries... I get 50 free SMS a month via the pennytel website and 150 calls to Australian mobiles (or 500 minutes total call time to mobiles - whichever comes first) per month. Is not a bad deal... This uses your existing broadband connection. If you want to use a standard non-VOIP phone then you have to buy a converter box thingy at $60-$100 from them but this cost is quickly recovered over the first few months of not paying other non-VOIP phone line rentals and call charges from Hellstra or Optass.
Only downside is that if your internet connection is down or dead then you cant use the phone. Call quality is usually pretty good unless you have like 1000 downloads happening on your computer at the same time or something else that is chewing up all your download speed/bandwidth in a hurry!

Re: Voip Info Needed ???
What's the $89 for? Here we have just lately turned to viop exxclusivly, we have the cordless home phone conected into the back of a billion voip router that is capable of 2 accounts and 2 phones. The house computer has a soft phone as a backup and so I can easily do (mobile phone) phone to phone (to bypass mobile phone call charges) from the computer desk, the netbook now has a soft phone or two and a USB phone is in the mail ATM...all is running via mobile broadband, monthly spend for phone line rental + calls + adsl etc has dropped by over 80% to approximately $20!! for in my instance a far faster service.
None of the above except for the voip router cost anything like that $89 up front, just the cost of charging an account with money for calls to be made...say $10 to get voip up and running.

Re: Voip Info Needed ???
As a starter consider this plug and play USB phone (the USB 1200).
https://www.mynetfone.com.au/Residen...hop/Soft-phone
Then choose the no service fee plan, you will have straight away all that you need to make VOIP calls worldwide, they will credit you the first $10 of calls and the phone plugs into your desktops USB only stays locked if you don't reconfigure to another service lots of other service providers have cheaper calls this is a good place to start for the price.
cannot loose IMO.

Re: Voip Info Needed ???
Thanks i think youve just raised more questions. lol.
$89.95 gets me
Line rental
20/20 gig of down loads at 1500 kbps.[3 x faster than were on now]
unlimited local and S.T.D [ DOESN'T COME OF THE 20/20 ITS FREE]
Pluss the convertor box is an extra $119.
Were able to still have a land line as well as the VOIP.

Re: Voip Info Needed ???
Ok I see, so you will be getting all PTSN (regular type) phone calls for free?? not counting international..do you need international? if not then you don't need voip on that plan.
You might in theory be able to get naked adsl at your address, no phone line rental but need VOIP for all calls for about $50p/m with big data. To do this a router is needed about $100 for a decent brand voip/adsl router.
Who is that plan with? be advised that very often 1500 adsl when tested will be about 700 at your computer, if your say >1km from the server or exchange well yes 1500 may be realistic.
fill out your address on this site for a few more options, wireless broadband even??

Re: Voip Info Needed ???
Its westnet.com.au were about 3.5 km as the crow flys flat ground to the tower.
would use it for mainly local calls and the internet up speed.and to tell telstra to shove it.there bring all our phone bills to be paid at once on the same date. 3 mobils and 1 home phone and im sick of telstra's crap.

Re: Voip Info Needed ???
Good stuff then it's nice to stick it to Telstra, i have memorys from 20 years ago and have had no further unforced by regulation dealing with them since.
It's good to have no copper into the house so no rental on anything, I pay precisely for what i use nothing more nothing less and with voip that side is small, the broadband we don't use much anyway, only a gig a month on average...makes it all much fairer...telstra should be worried!
