Excellent except it is not user friendly when it comes to saving and transfering waypoints ( gpx exchange file ) (google earth kml file ) via your computer.
Thanks for the info Bayrunner looks like not many ray marine users out there
Cheers COL
I just bought a a50 i have only used the unit once but as said above not as user friendly as my furuno gp30 but only used it the once. I am starting to get my head around the unit by playing with it in the boat at home and i am starting to like it more and more. Picks up satelittes really quickly under the tarp at home detail is quiet good with the australia wide gold card and it updates really quickly.
I Bought an A-50 at xmas and have used the unit only one a week ago and have found the quality of the unit as good as the old Raymarine it replaced . i have the navionis gold chart and am currently waiting ona free update to be installed . I sometimes wonder if i should have purchased the A-70 due to the larger screen size., I also run a Garmin127c which is agreat unit . The A -50 never once dropped out and i have a soft top canopy on the boat ,it seems to be a little harder to use but time and use will solve that, Have a look at the Raymarine websiteat the video on its use . l probably would purchase it again over some of the other units on the market .

I have had an a65 for three years odd.
Fantastic unit, has some little quirks like searching for waypoints by name that could be easier. bigger screen definitely better.
Mine is combo and the sounder is a quality item.
Take your time and get used to it, you will like it.
Brendan
Thanks all for your input
i will Waite to look at & compare the new GARMIN 750 touch screen & G2 vision chart
should be hear to view next week COL
Hey Col,
Obviously good to measure twice and cut once but dont discount the raymarine. That is a quality unit. It is not that hard to use and once you have started it is dead easy.
My issue with the touch screens is that with a bit of salt waster around the tendancy might be to scratch the screen.Might be different in a well sealed cockpit.
It is a shame that you havent had more feedback from long term raymarine users as I am sure that the "user friendly " issues are really more while you are just getting used to it.
you are welcome to come take a look if you want.
Brendan
We use raymarine chart plotters on the VMR boat. IMO, they are the best chart plotter I have used. I wish I had looked at them when I bought my lowrance gear.
Our new boat at VMR is also going to be fitted with raymarine gear.
There you go Col.
I might add that when I get over the recent boat reno bills I will be moving the A65 to the backup position and getting a bigger raymarine in its place. Probably
c90 or c120 if I go the radar option as well. I did the seaway in the dark the other morning and any help seeing in the dark would be great.
