Know they have had a bad wrap lately but looked at a basic 5 meter hull and trailer only and the price seems reasonable. I was thinking i would be able to take it to another builder and get all the welds checked and redone if necessary. Just really like the shape and the depth of the hull. Am i losing my marbles?????????? PLEASE HELP

i guess it depends who was on the welder when it was built as some of their old work was real good but certain guy's that could actually weld left seastorm and left some dodgy apprentices to fill the gaps and some of their work was atrocious.
Thats why im thinking if i could get somebody to reweld it if necessary surely i would end up with a decent hull as i doubt the quality of material used would of changed or maybe i am wrong.
its a nice thing if you can go to a boat builder or sales outlet and take a mate who knows about welding,boats built by the same mob often turn out a googly and that's the hull we don't want to buy its nice to pick the best welded available,don't forget all welders have to weld their first couple of boats,they are the scary ones.

Probably more important to know the boat is straight & symetrical, then check the quality of the welds. Sounds easy from the comfort of my office.......
Thats pretty left field RC to buy a new boat and get it fixed straight away. Makes me wonder what alloy boat building is coming to. Too many going under and it seems one of the remaining not trusted to be put into the water without a reweld. Ten aout of ten for creativity but .
A business with such shoddy standards that cannot keep quality tradesman on principal alone does not deserve any of your hardearned. Surely there must be something of better quality out there that will suit or even secondhand that could be adapted.
The way i see it is that i am more or less buying a second hand hull. And no they are not one of the remaining ones as they have allrerady gone under.

I'm one of the lucky ones that must have got a good Seastorm boat (6.1m ocean series 1/2 cab) I got the boat about 2 1/2 years ago brand new but I had a mate of mine a boiler maker go over the boat for me before I got it. As you said they are a great shape ,deep hull and they ride well.
Now I'm with you, not really up on the seastorm debate. As you said if the problems were just a matter of build quality and not tickness of hull and the number of ribs etc then you're on the right track. I'm just a bit of a sceptic some times cause I once got caught out and ended up having to replace a whole bottom.
