    wrxhoon,

It was a Makita saw, just it was made in China now. Nothing wrong with the saw or the quality.

Bit off track a little but small 4 stroke Makita gear ( brush cutters etc ) is quite good,robin/Subaru engines.Very reliable stuff.

    Steve ,
I haven't bought any Chinese built power tools yet mate because I still have my 30 yo Jap power tools , I wonder if the Chinese made ones will last that long !! Like I said before if they fail who cares you buy another . At least Makita are a well known brand. Given the choice of a Makita made in Japan and one made in China , I know what I will buy ..

Who the hell is Parsun ?? I don't even want to know never mind buy one for my boat . I don't want to even risk it failing 40 km offshore just to save 10%.

I have a 200 Merc Opti in my Trophy and a 15 hp Merc auxiliary just in case but the only time I used the 15 hp is trial run and flashing at home . I don't even use it for trolling and I have it conected to the main engine with a S/S bar so they both steer.

I have a friend who bought a Parsun a while ago, he hated it almost from new, it is now out of warranty and tossed in the back of his shed, he bought a second hand flogged to death ex surf club 25 Yamaha for peanuts and uses it all the time, he reckons that's what he should have done in the first place, but that being said, he could have got a "lemon" it might have been the way he used it, might have been any number of things, but he no longer uses it, might ask him on the weekend why, and get back to you.

Your telling me to keep up,i did not say your post was off track i said MINE WAS.

Read my post correctly, i was giving Makita small engined power equipment a wrap regardless of its origin.

Perhaps you should give yourself a chance to wake up properly before seeing things that are not really there !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now who needs to read correctly ??????

    G'Day Ausfisher's

I'll give you the lastest update on the Parsun's if you like. I'll also start by replying to some of the NON believers =)
wrxhoon seems you have a issue with Chinese made products. You probably don't realise just how many of them you use throughout the day. I'm guessing a good 80%+ of everyday items you touch are chinese manufactured. I hope your motor isn't a Merc under 40hp otherwise thats anther thing you'll be using that is chinese made. Merc doesn't like to promote that's where they have been manufacturing for years. On the same road in fact as Parsun. P.S. Parsun's factory was there first as well. =)
Response to Steeler and selling directly to the public. Yes we have a retail shop as well. But we stick to our territory agreement like every other dealership we sign up. Not 1 dealer has a issue with this. If we get a online sales through our website or even off ebay. It still goes through the local dealer we don't ship directly unless there isn't a dealer in that area. It would be silly to make our dealership's angry wouldn't it?
Last reply is to gazza pointing out the prices of the 30hp. I'd prefer not to talk prices on forums because I don't think its right but I will point out Gazza didn't mention that the 40hp is only 50 bucks more. The reason is the 30 and 40 are the same motor the 30 is just derated through the carby. Parsun is in the end stages of bringing out a lightwieght 30hp Then your going to see a huge difference in the 30hp price. Stay posted on that one.
Now for some exciting news. Everyone keeps talking about the F&B test done just under 3 years ago on the 15hp parsun outboard. Well we have been contacted by Peter Webster from F&B magazine and they would like to do a follow up review on the 15hp to see how they are going as time has now passed on. This report will be out around the end of the year. I've given Peter a company who bought 1 of the first 15hp's from us. He'll be interviewing this customer to see how the engine has performed. Also Peter has contacted anther commercial fisherman who I don't know myself and will be interviewing them as well. This is very exciting for us because we know how the motors perform but this will be coming from 3rd parties now. From reading F&B you can be sure Peter will be telling the honest truth on how these engines are wearing and performing. It's going to be a great issue keep an eye out for it.

    Re: Parsun Outboard Motors.

i was going by what prices were currently shown those prices were only shown because the dealer thought they were cheap enough and compete to other well known brands i think your hiding your prices not because its not the right thing to do but because u know there way over priced

    Mr Boats

    Your quote from Feb 08

"Ha Ha thats funny just above. This is for the guy whos said outboards just aren't made from recycled down cans. This is actually true. The main alloy used in manufactore of outboards is recycled aluminium cans. The reason why is, it's a high grade aluminium. Food quality so it is used as the base material.
As for the osprey's. Check out these motors. Parsun Outboards, the australian importer is in Sydney www.parsunoutboards.com.au It looks as if it used to be the osprey outboard site. I've had a chat with these guys and actually went around and had a look first hand. These are good looking motors parts and warranty doesn't seem a issue."

Were you the Parsun man before or after.

    Re: Parsun Outboard Motors.

Ive been running a Parsun 15HP for about 7-8 months now on my Stacer tinny and I cant fault it - hasnt missed a beat! Must have done 30-40 hrs now and is still like a new motor.

If I painted it blue and put Yamaha stickers on it 95% of people wouldnt be able to pick the difference.

    Smile Re: Parsun Outboard Motors.

Sorry to bring an old thread back to life but Ive been doing some reviewing on the Yamaha 15, Parsun 15, Powertec 15 and Onxy 15 hp engines. I was looking for a 20 hp for my 375 Cody but not much out there. My buget was around the $1500 mark and wanted the yamaha straight of the back. I found a Powertec ($1500 + postage) at first on Ebay and then the Parsun ($1795 + postage) then found Onxy ($1385 quoted in an email off Ebay)

    http://shop.ebay.com.au/i.html?_trkp...4&_sop=3&_sc=1

Take all 4 engines, remove the stickers and paint them white and you would not tell the differance. From the main engine parts down to the prop. Stated on the Onxy ebay site that "Yamaha parts compatible, same as Yamaha to look at and basically the same engine specs as Yamaha". They all have a two year warranty.
I rang a Parsun dealer and asked if they are made in the same factory as the Yamaha and they answered no, Parsun are made 400 meters up the road from the Yamaha factory in China and that Yamaha own 30% shares in Parsun motors. the big question for me was what is the differance in the other 3 engines. Is it the way its all assembled? after sales service? What's written on the sticker?

After searching for around 2 weeks every night I came across a 2009 15hp Yamaha for $1550 and snapped it up quick smart.
Not sure how the other brands compare but if anyone has purchased one of these and has any info, it would be very interesting on how they shape up.

    Thanks for reading, cheers

the biggest problem is as you found out most will go with brand name first if they can afford it cause they feel safer in that purchase
