Went down and launched at Pinkenba ramp around 7.00am, i went straight to my prawn spot but it was not to be, i only got about 20 medium sized banana's out of about 15 throws of the net. I also got a grunter around 30cm and a threadfin around 40cm.
Plan b was to try for a threadfin. I went to the secret spot near the mouth . I sounded around for a while but i could not find any decent sized bait schools or arches so i did not even drop a lure there.
Plan c was snapper at Mud Island, i left the river mouth to a almost flat bay. Ten minutes later i was at my first mark. First cast i got a small hit and i landed a bullseye, a first for me.
Two casts later i got a small hit, i set the hook and the fish started swimming towards me, it felt like a small squire only pulling a small amount of drag, then i noticed how fast this fish was going, when i got the slack line in and the fish felt the weight it decided it was a decent fish after all, easily pulling 6 pound fireline from my 2000 sol. It's first run was around the 40-50 meter mark, i started the outboard and got some line back until i was above the fish. It slugged it out in 30 foot of water with those big thumps we all love to feel, a short time later i had 69cm of snapper in the net. The fish weighed in at 3.48kg. I stayed for another hour and a half with nothing else landed apart from a huge 50cm pike. Hopefully the sandcrabs will like the snapper scraps and the pike, i put the pots out when i got home to Redcliffe.
