Thread: Falling barometer

    Falling barometer

Was listening to "Crumpet "doing his fishing report on the radio the other day.
He was saying that when the barometer pressure is falling the fishes swim
blader shrinks ; making them feel hungry and bringing them on the bite.
In my experiance i've allways found it hard to catch fish on a droping barometer.
Just curious what other people have experianced ?????

    Cheers Graham

I think "crumpet"has got it wrong,

falling BP for me means no bites,

I have found climbing BP to be the go, above 1024 is best,
from there, the higher the better.

When I see on the big map a big high over the middle of OZ with an arm reaching out to the coast, I know I will catch fish.

Yeh, a higher pressure actually means that the "physical weight" of the air on the land/water (measured in hectapascels) can theoretically influence creatures who are sensitive to such changes.

If ever you have been in the tropics like Cairns etc. when a cyclone (low BP) is around all animals and birds go very quiet for a day or two before it hits.

Urban legand is that fish are also effected by BP but as a low BP is also a sign of crappy weather on the way, maybe this also has something to do with it?
