Headed out to Mud island for the first time today with my 2 younger brothers. Arrived out there on the western side at around 545 and started sounding around to try find a decent position. Will deffinately have to get a gps installed cause we found what would of been an awesome patch of ground rising up to almost 4m from 8 and tonnes of fish on the sounder. But once we turned the boat around and tried to anchor up on it we couldnt find the spot again . 20 minutes later we found a decent spot and in went the anchor and burley. Within minutes my younger brother landed our first squire of the day at 34.999999999cm. (he must of measured it 5 times, hoping that with the next measure it would of been ok to take home for lunch)Quick photo and released.
Had a bundle of fun out there with a total of about 30 squire caught between the three of us ranging from 28-34cm as well 3 soul fish, 2 wrass, a couple of bream and moses perch, one of those sucker fish you see on sharks and 2 giant toad fish as long as our forearms. Unfortunately the only legal fish for the day was the moses perch but with our first ever trip to mud and close to 40 fish landed for the day, I would say it was a great success.
