    Westernport Bay Can be OK

Figure its about time I made some sort of fishing report as thats what its all about in the end and at the start for that matter.

I know most of you guys are from QLD and probably think the fishing down south is a bit of a yawn but it can hit its straps sometimes and be as good as anywhere.

Last week was a case in point. Imagine an easy beach launch just five minutes down the road. A perfect warm day, the whole ocean end of a very big bay all to ourselves. Just five minutes from the launch and we decide to go on a drift looking for a whiting holding spot known as one tree. Nothing for a while then bang. I like drifting and holding the rod to feel the bite. This time on the light gear I think its a snapper or something. It fights. I net the thing thinking a salmon, got to be. But no a king george whiting at 480mm a pb thanks. A big fish compared to even a 440-450mm. They really fatten out heaps when they get over 450mm.

Now it was that time in the tide to anchor up at waypoint 4 which was shown to me early in the GPS's life. We had some real fun here getting big whiting from one side of the boat, snapper from another and flathead over the stern. We had a ball and to think that it will be the same for at least the next month. At the end of the session all we had to do was quietly motor up to the beach, hook up the boat etc on the sand and five minutes to home. No other boats in sight all day although we didn't get much chance to do much looking.

If ever you QLD blokes get to thinking that its not that special down here just wonder that perhaps it can be..........

Being a bit of a fishing glutton I went every day for the next four days, in perfect weather and did nearly as well each time and not a hint of a crowd.

PS A cobia was caught not far around the bay last week which would have to be a huge fluke or tale.....

    Sounds fantastic mate.
Has been blowing and raining up here for a couple of weeks, so all reports sound great!
    Cheers and thanks.
