4 meter Devil Cat
Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone owns a four meter tiller steer Devil Cat. I'm very interested in one of these boats and would appreciate anyone's feed back or experiences with them.
Many thanks,
Jon.

Nope not a old whaler , look similar, better mould shape , dryer better deck config.
Original molds as originated in Tassie 15 yaras ago . Person building them has a heritage in ski racing and boat building so should be able to pull a good boat out of a mould
Guy on Hawksbury in NSW bought them up and is making them. Factory set up is good and there can be custom stuff done, build to what standard you want. Originals were built very tough and heavy but with better materials now they would be lighter and tougher. Could have many bulkheads and watertight compartments, foam , fish box etc. Used to be able to stick a lot of HP on em and they would fly.
Haven't been in the smaller models but the larger ones were a very very good balanced ride in the rough , carry a lot of payload and are a proper self drain deck
Make sure you do a test run in any boat there are not many reviews on and do one in a recently reviewed boat as well so you have a direct comparison. You have to make sure that size and style is suitable for what you are looking for and conditions you are using it in. Try and test it is bad conditions not in a river and see how it goes- being a cat in that size the stability and safety will impress the hell out of you along with the space avaliable but you have to weigh that up against weight to tow and motor to power it.
Interesting to hear if you have a test run and how the price compares with others.

Bit more info on the website
http://www.devilcatboats.com.au/
There are blokes in Tassie and SA selling them and getting good feedback from new owners. Be interested to hear how many he has made as he has been going a few years now and I like to see boats made in Aussie get a go. Bit of a word of mouth thing as the big shows are expensive and only for the big boys
Out of interest I don't think I will ever own a totally open boat again even for estuary work ( other that the camping tinny ) as I am getting old and want some protection so I can fish in all weathers and a bit of protection if I stay overnght.
