    brisbane river monday morn

Left colmslie ramp this morning at 1am after collecting some prawns for bait ,got to our usual spot and deployed the baits, and got settled in and before too long stewie (tracing em) starts to get a run on a big prawn, a solid strike saw him hook up and he brings his first jewie for the night to the boat. does this for the next half an hour 3 times with me sitting there wondering why my baits remain untouched they went 58 62 and a oh so close 73. they are getting bigger and i think soon we will end up with a legal one.Just as im trying to figure out where my fishing mojo has gone, my line starts to peel off my rod, a solid hook up and ive forgotton about my bad mojo. The fight goes on for a few minutes and the call was made for a big threadie, and just as the leader pops out of the water we get a flash of gold, a big tail swipe and he has gone. As i start to cry and wonder just what i did wrong, i check my hook and discover the hook has broken off the tip just under the barb. Faulty hook. could have happened to anyone i say, and get back to the job.and as i turn around stewie is on again, as i prepare the net he slides a 48cm snapper into it.But im not angry, im NOT.
Sorting through the live bait tank i start to dump some of the dead herring and hardy heads over the back thinking this will get my mind off not catching anything and after a few more minutes i start to get a little run, and solid strike and im on. some good runs but nothing like a jewie or threadie, and up pops a 54cm estuary cod,So a little bit happier i set my line up again and in the next 10 minutes i pull in another 2 solid cod, one of the cod had 2 of the herring i had thrown in the water in its mouth, and as i was trying to get the hook out with a pair of pliers guess what happens? the hook breaks just below the barb. Hmmmm dodgy hooks. never had that problem before with mustard hooks not sure if anyone else has??stewie finished off the day with a nice shovel nose, and we headed for home at 7am. cheers BK

solid fishing mate well done. Ive always found the jewies fight above their weight, great fun to chase but the snaps will always be my favourite

You make me envious... You're fishing while I'm waking up for school. Sounds like a fun and enjoyable session you had, good effort.
