1770 September

I am heading to 1770 in Sept school hols with the family from the Sunny Coast. This is my first time up there so any help on marks to get started or any tips would be great. We are staying at the 1770 Camping Grounds so hope to leave the boat in the water while we are there. If anyone else will be up there at that time would be happy to catch up and have a beer. My boat is a 5.1 meter with a 90 Johnson

Seawind if you head north when you leave the bar not sure exactly how far about 10 klm or something grab a chart there is inner middle and outer rock which can be worth having a fish on. We have caught some good trevally and reefy's there and i a preety good spot for mackerall. If you fish the creeks you are better of going out the bar and then head back into the beach and follow it along there is four creeks i think all up which fish better than the main one. Carefull on the crabbing in one it use to be no crabbing in on of them not sure it has been a while. Also there is plenty of reef if you leave the bar and just keep going straight out keep an eye on the sounder. Stop in at the tackle shop on the way in i am sure the guy in there is very helpful might be able to give you a few starter marks. In failing that head to fitzroy or musgrave but it is a bit of a hike there is reef everywhere out there shouldn't go to far wrong.

Hi Seawind,

I am heading up there mid sept for a fish. I have afew marks around there. I am hoping to do alot of my fishing around Fitzroy and Lady Elliott so if you are keen we could hook up and run both boats out and around there.

Middle, Inner and Outter rock is off Bustad Head some 23k's North from the bar. It has been hit hard over the years, but still will produce fish.

BOAB Bribie..... long way between Lady Elliot and Fitzroy ?. I fish Fitzroy east and nth east. Have done Lady Musgrave a few times as well.

Hey thanks guys,Lucky_Phill, I fish the banks out from Mooloolaba which is anything from 20 to 30 miles out so if the weather is good i dont mind going out that far. I usually target reefes so i know we will have to travel a good distance. I would like to hook up to some of those red fish as we dont get many legal ones down here

or as indy says, pop into the tackle shop, about a kilometer before Agnes Water right hand side and speak to Owners, Tony & Sandi or son Josh. They will supply as many ' general ' marks as you'll need. You'll also get the low down on what's happening, fish wise.

FYI............ Kahunas is a great place for " Lady Musgrave " pizza.

The Tavern has good meals and Roast of the Day is value.

ON non-fishing days, a trip to Eurimbula, Middle creeks is good ( north ) and to the south, you can get to Baffle Creek via the Deepwater Creek National Park.

I always tell folks that a trip into Pancake Creek via boat is a must. Beautiful place and good fishing along the way. It's a further 5 - 7 k's north of Bustard Head. No probs with bar and many good anchorages. There is even a reef system out the front of it called " Pancake Bombie ".

Having lived there and visited the place since 1979, ya tend to get the hang of things.

Gday seawind we will be up there during school hols 3rd year running love to catch up for a beer. Will be fishing around bustard head as my boat is only 4.8 not too keen to go too wide. Camp sites 2 through 5. Hope to see you up there Rod.

Sounds good, my boat is only a 5.1 ally craft bowrider so i will only go wide if the weather is good. Will let you know which camp site we are on once i check with the boss
