furuno 585 to garmin 551

Ok i don't understand the nmea stuff but the sounder is nmea 183 but the gps is nmea 2000 can they communicate and if so what do i need to do to wire them up many thanks neil

NMEA + out of sounder goes to NMEA + in of GPS
NMEA - out of sounder goes to earth
NMEA + in of sounder goes to NMEA + out of GPS
NMEA - in of sounder goes to earth

You should be able to change the NMEA settings of the sounder to suit what the GPS is outputting
