    Electric Brake Controllers

Not sure that I'm posting in the correct section, but here goes anyway !
I'm currently using a Tekonsha Voyager brake controller and am finding it almost impossible to "set and forget ". By that I mean that every time I hook up the boat trailer I have to mess around with the controller the get the brakes operating correctly. I can head off to the ramp in the morning, setting the controller as I go and will then find that I have to do it all over again on the way home at the end of the day as the setting will have changed. Is this a common complaint with this particular model or does mine sound a bit suspect.
I've been told that the Prodigy is a much better unit.
    Any advice welcome,
    Thanks in advance, Taz.

How have you got the controller set up ?. They need to be set pretty level because i think your model has a swinging pendulum . I have a hayes genesis that is fully automatic with a internal pendulum , mine is set at 15% braking on trailer and i never have to touch it . Also have you got it set on power over hydraulic maybe its set at power over electric .

    Chimo,
The hydraulic unit is a Carlisle HydraStar HBA-12, with Break Safe series 5000.
Four wheel discs and Alko calipers ( unsure of model )

    Dave_S,
I've set it, (over and over again !) as per the instruction dvd that came with it.
It is a bit involved, 2 dials, Level Knob and Power Knob
I believe it is a swinging pendulum type but the instructions say it can be mounted between 20 degrees face down and 70 degrees face up. Mine is around 40 degrees face up so well within the limits.
There is no setting for electric / hydraulic.
    Cheers, Taz.

    Re: Electric Brake Controllers

If the level of the car or the load and trim of the boat changes.......like the absence of 150 litres of fuel in the boat, this will change your brake ballance.

I have run these controllers and the set up is relativly simple....level it and adjust the sensitivitty.

If you get used to them, they are quite straight forward to tweek.

    cheers
Its the details, those little details, that make the difference.

Maybe send the tekonsha technical support an email and see what they say ,here is a link http://www.tekonsha.com/product/contact.asp.

    Re: Electric Brake Controllers

taz, i think that controller is only for electric brakes and not for electric over hydraulic. read the instructions and you'll find where they state this. i got caught out by installing a primus for our trailer, which doesn't do electric over hydraulic either and so now i've changed it for a p3 which does hydraulic.

I own both the tekonsha prodigy and voyager. I would be contacting support as i think that unit should be ok:

Get yourself a P3, set and forget, not that much more money and they will handle your Hydrastar , I done one a few weeks ago and its perfect.
