Kingfisher Bay jetty

Hey all,

I'm taking the family to Fraser for 4 nights at the end of April. We'll find ourselves at Kingfisher Bay resort for a couple of nights just before the full moon. I've stayed there and fished the jetty for good results a few years ago on an August full moon. Mainly bream and a few tailor. Just wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what species I should be targetting this trip at the end of April. I'll probably only get one or two sessions, either late at night or dawn (or both), due to family commitments. Looking for something to put on the table. I will also be packing the cast net, so I'm keen to drop a few livies off the jetty. I pretty much have covered any gear required for whatever comes along (I think). Just need to know what to pack. I hear there are some bigger things that lurk there, but not sure of the frequency of which they appear.

Any advice very welcome.

Never been during April, but if you ask the staff at the resort they will point you in the right direction.

Hey I was there around the same time a few years ago wen I was about 14 and we had livies out and we lose some big fish. We saw like queenfish swimining around we guessing that was them. We got 98cm flathead there went about 8kg. Also dome big bream and that. Good luck

resort staff say cast under the jetty, not straight out like all the other mugs. Big trevally. did I mention hang on?

Do your self a favour, and reserve an hour to sit at the jetty bar with a beer. When you do, ask them to show you through the photo albums of the fish caught off that jetty. Well worth the effort.

Last time I was there I seen a 1m kingie free swimming about half way up. He wasn't interested in anything tho. There was some nice squid down the end under the lights at night. I managed to spin up some small mackeral & GT's early one morning.

Pack some bait jigs, the oysters and rocks around the jetty aren't kind to nets.

Flathead around the rocks about half way out , they like Herring. Have also seen a Kingy swimming around but he wasn't interested in anything that had a hook in it. Saw an old bloke pull a Flattie from under the Jetty that was followed by a big Cod. Lots to see & do at the jetty. tuG telluM

When I was there years ago I saw a huge fresh GT frame/head hanging from a tree... Must have been about the 50kg mark when caught.

That reminds of the first time i fished the jetty. It was about 4/5pm & me & a mate had been fishing there all day for nothing special. We watched as this ranger rocks up & within 15-30mins had 2 big Golden trevally around the 10kg mark. I managed to hookup to a decent golden after one of the charter guys gave me some silver biddies for bait. Ended up losing it to the pylons under the jetty as we were trying to gaff it.

aahh my favourite fishing spot.... The 3 highlights for me are 1)watching a pack of XOS golden trevally go crazy for cubed herring berley thrown in by a local guide - they did not touch the ones with hooks though. 2) watching a pair of 1.5m long Spanos cruise along letty when water was black with bait. 3) spotlighting a 1+m Barra that repeatedly came to surface late one night. Thought he was a jewie until I saw his head then there was no doubting it was Barra. This blew my mind but the locals that I spoke too were not surprised. Dropped a big mullet down on 100lb handline and tied off to letty. 5min later SNAP! ,As for gear don't be afraid to go heavy. I like to use a couple of overheads with 50+lb to soak livies, and flick lures with something else. Hooking big 'uns is the easy bit. Defeating the pylons is the challenge
