    Bream, Salmon and Couta

Just returned from a two week stay in Tassie seeing my father and as usual brought the rod and reel along. Without going into too much detail I fished from the north of the state at Devenport down the east coast and into Hobart and it surrounds. Bream was the main target I was hoping to get as the last few trips down drew no result on the Bream front but this time luck was on my side. I managed a couple of Bream in the mid 30's along the east coast and scored a few in the Derwent pushing over 40cm and about 1.5kg. I used a combo of bait or lures depending on the mood of the fish at the time. In between Bream fishing I managed a nice Aussie Salmon from the northern part of the state and a stinking great Couta as well which for it's size to land it on 8lb leader was a miracle (It's a 40cm ruler next to it). All in all a good trip and I think next trip will be targeting the freshwater scene for some Trout action.

Nice Couta mate, hope you didn't eat any of the Derwent fish from around the Hobart area.
You might start glowing green and your hair will fall out!

They are some big black bream, good to see you finally get your target fish down there. Now you just need to get a 40cm bream up here.

when i was a youngster wagging school i used to catch barracouta off the burnie wharf, though they were a lot fatter than the one in your pic, i used shark hooks and half a fish as bait
they were always milky/worms and i would gut them and sell them to the foreigners {we used a different word in my day} working on the wharves
i believe no-one is allowed on the wharves now, same as up here
