Toyota Boxes are different in that the turbo boxes have larger input shaft, bigger bearings and the gear sets are a fine tooth setup so that the load is spread over a much larger area since there are more teeth meshed at the one time compared to a standard box

The N/A Toyota Cruiser Boxes are designated as R151 and the turbo boxes are H150

Since the torque output of the turbo engines is significantly higher than N/A engines there is a need to upgrade the gearbox to cope with the extra torque#

No matter what gearbox you are running
driving about at around at low revs with the engine/gearbox loaded up will reduce the life of the bearings in the gearbox, The gearbox will sound unhappy doing it, especially in the higher gears

cheers thes two boxes are GQ gearboxes one tb42 and TD45. The turbo deisel, NAdiesel and petrol motor all have the same gearbox just a bell housing difference for the starter motors. There are different diff options in the GQ Patrol/Mav as HG3,9 andHG4.1.
The Toyote H55F is exactly the same in the 2H and the 12HT Turbo motor.
The H55F was fitted with a fine spline front shaft when it was used with the 1HZ in the HZJ75.
The difference in the H105F and H151F is only the ratios on first and second gear. H150F 4.529 and 2.464, H151F 4.018 and 2.294.

That diesel automatic is huge! it's hard enough getting the manual to fit back in with the twist needed upon line up. I have a slightly noisy throwout bearing ATM the thought of dealing again with what has gotta be the heaviest gearbox ever put in a car sent a shiver down my spine.

Cheers That's for sure. Posted the same pic twice pretty clever. One was suposed to be the petrol and the diesel bell housings. There are a few sledge hammers taken to the Nissan floorpans because of that twisting. Cruiser box is far easier to remove and replace. cheers

I got one quote back $945 delivered to my door for a 3 inch mandrel straight through exhaust, that's pretty steep!. $835 exhaust only without delivery.

Will need to sneak this past the missus somehow.

I paid $500.00 for 3 inch mandrel with muffler in Townsville a few years ago. I asked Qld transport and they said I would be defected without a muffler as the cruiser no longer complied with ADR as a muffler was originally fitted. Thought maybe in the event of a possible accident that I could possibly be classed as unroadworthy and loose my insurance cover.

Ok that's no good, possibly a straight through resonator/hot dog might suffice, I don't think I need a 3 inch exhaust for what i am doing but considered if a bit noisy on the highway the extra diameter would give me the option of a hot dog fitted later, might need to do that from the start.

Where in Townsville did you get the mandrel exhaust? i didn't think anyone up here did them.

The three inch does work better than a 2 1/2 inch. The exhaust shop was Fastfix Mufflers, 743 Riverway Drive Condon, 47732600. I got 3 or 4 prices and he did it the cheapest and I was very pleased with the job.

The kit I got had a muffler included in the pipework.

Allan got me to fire the 4.2 up with the turbo fitted but before the exhaust pipework was added and the noise with and without the pipework inc its muffler was the same. Quaint outcome I thought and I do have a muffler Mr.

    Re: Anyone here know turbos?

That would probably work with the dump pipe attached to get it to the muffler shop except I rang one and they quoted me $1500 no dump pipe and 3 inch mandrel bent.

Thinking this will be the exact same kit I can buy at the retail price above from Beaudesert! Trying to bend me over I suspect, being a consumer in Cairns can be like that.

Its all relivant. We changed a mates turbo over and thought we could just use the old pipework. Not the case. The new turbo after using the adaptors was 69mm lower. Doesnt sound like much but when dealing with a mandrel bent dump pipe it was painful. Even after we got the turbo fitted to the dump pipe. The rest of the tollerances for the exhaust pipe wherent good eg.. Front drive shaft clearance and under torque it was rubbing on the gearbox etc...

And arent you using a high mount??

Best bet. Fit it all. Get it up and running. Then take it to an exhaust shop
    Food for thought

ps. You dont need a muffler or hotdogs. All the noise is out the back. Cant even hear mine really from inside. Just the turbo whistle

    Re: Anyone here know turbos?

I agree you do not really need a muffler and there are quite a few diesels about without mufflers fitted but your vehicle is liable to be defected because of that in a roadworthy check. Then that raises the possibility your insurance company may wipe you in an insurance claim. Bit risky for me. cheers

Yeah planing on using a top mount if I can catch a bloke at his work who can give me a price.
True that part of the fitting I cannot predict, so I wont try besides I do not trust my ability to weld the flange onto the thin walled pipe.

Thinking I can get a hotdog or 2 retrofitted later....looks like the car will not be entirely legal anyway without a mod plate...until I pay the money for that privilege I will be outside looking in so fitting a 'to show' only hotdog might be a waste of my early time and money.

Still in my opinion these Nissan diesels and virtually all other 6cylinder engines sound annoyingly messy when single pipe and turbo.

    cheers fnq

Oh yeah. I got the exhaust upgrade passed by the boss, the original and genuine exhaust system from about the front of the tailshaft backwards will need replacing in the next few months for a quote of around $550, the difference in price for this turbo exhaust looks better now YaY!.

    Re: Anyone here know turbos?

Just incase someone is thinking of doing something like this oneday.

Expected price/quotes and as i update:

    Exhaust unfitted and delivered = $945 -$550 (in my circumstance) = $395

Turbo Secondhand, that I measured tolerance on so think it is still good enough to fit without a rebuild = $140

    Oil lines = $70

Top mount manifold = $550.00 (Denco)

    dump pipe = $220.00 (Denco)

    New air cleaner =?

Stainless pipe, silicone stuff, hose clamps =$250?

Turbine housing to exhaust manifold Adaptor = up to $200

    EGT Guage = $260

    Boost guage = $120

    Numerous gaskets/studs/minor fittings = $150

    Sundries so far= $2.00

    Estimate to date = $2357.00

    cheers fnq
