And there is a question about whether it lies in a good place - it certainly missed the planned spot !!
Rushed and botched IMHO

FNQ,
you are right in most respects. What the issue is, is that the Govt in their attempts to provide a compensation package for displaced recreational anglers, have again failed to show their transparency, their willingness to work with rec fishos. They got a whiff of unrest from rec fishos, they got a whiff of the local MP's about to castigate them and done a runner.
Sure , the wreck is in the location where it is needed and most likely within the boundries of the area know as Harry Atkinson Reef.
The Govt just need to do things right, with the right intentions, the right reasons and with the stakeholders they are trying to appease.

brilliant call caster!
and .................... who cares when or how it got sunk lads, does it really matter whether it got sunk on a friday or a sunday? let's at least give credit where credit's due (even though i cant stand this government), they're delivering, albeit slowly, on an election promise for more artificial reef structure. the bottom line is, that it's now down there and there should be more of it. at least they did their work on a nasty day when they wouldn't have disturbed anyone else trying to catch a fish.
Ok i guess politics is politics, although if it is off mark and there was a true fishing related reason for the original mark - that is unacceptable!
Thinking between the lines, that gutsy cyclone has been tipped to head toward the central coast or below for over 48 hours now, they may have considered that if this window closes the next might be around 2 weeks away.
cheers fnq
i'm hearing ya andy, i still haven't seen or heard hide nor hair of a kindy at beachmere yet even though our esteemed local member was quite happy to not only get the local mums handing out campain krap on her behalf but also to have her picture taken with hands raised in a victory salute with one of the local mums to celebrate the new kindy being approved ................. pre election day of course. i suspect that the state coffers are making that sound that your straw makes when you get to the bottom of a milkshake ........................ sluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrppp

Tiwi Pearl: Kate loses it
The Minister for Sustainability, Kate Jones, today is in hiding from questions about the final resting place of the Tiwi Pearl in Moreton Bay after she prematurely scuttled the boat last Friday. The minister has been unable or unwilling to confirm the exact location of the wreck several days after botching the sinking.
LNP Member for Cleveland, Mark Robinson said, "it sounds ludicrous, but the minister does not appear to know where her reef extension has gone, and it may have missed the intended mark. 'Oh where, oh where has Kate's little boat gone' could well be sung in schools around Moreton Bay this week."
In a ministerial statement on 12 March, Kate Jones said the intended location of the Tiwi Pearl was latitude 27° 24.505' S and longitude 153° 18.510' E (GDA 94). Yet, the Queensland Notice to Mariners issued on 12 March only gave an 'approximate' latitude of 27° 24.5' S for the new wreck. This imprecise latitude figure, only going to one decimal point, rather than the normal three that is needed for a wreck's precise location, has fueled speculation that the minister can't find her boat.
Dr Robinson called on the minister to end the ongoing saga of the Tiwi Pearl by confirming today the boat's final precise latitude, and whether it is at the intended location of 27° 24.505' S or not. And if not, where is it?
"If we have a second Harry Atkinson reef, we would need to name it. We could call it 'Little Harry' as it would be one of the smallest reefs in the world. Or if it landed on the muddy bottom we could call it 'Dirty Harry'.
But it has become apparent that long before the storm blew up and the boat anchor ropes snapped on 12 March causing the boat to take on water, the minister had lost control of the project.
Dr Robinson said, "The situation was out of control from the moment the minister ignored the forecast strong wind warnings on 10 March for 12-14 March. She sent the Tiwi Pearl into the predicted storm that everybody knew was coming, including the minister, instead of waiting for calmer weather.
"This taxpayer funded project was put at risk by the recklessness of the minister. She should apologise to boaties and fishers for jeopardising their artifical reef by her actions and for robbing them of participating in the long awaited sinking.
"It will be by good fortune, not good planning, if the Tiwi Pearl has found itself a good bed to lie on."

Just got an updated location in a Notice to Mariners....Maritime Safety Queensland
Queensland Notices to Mariners
226 (Permanent) of 2010
Brisbane pilotage area
Locality: Harry Atkinson Reef, Moreton Bay
Activity: vessel scuttled for reef extension
Refer to notice: 221 (P) of 2010
Mariners are advised that the least depth over the 'EX-TIWI PEARL' is 5 metres at Lowest
Astronomical Tide (LAT). Soundings have revealed that the ship lies in an east-west orientation.
The exact position has been updated to latitude 27° 24.532' S, longitude 153° 18.304' E
Mariners are advised to navigate with caution over the sunken ship and note the least depth.
Thanks Paul. I reckon, despite how it was all done, that this will be sweet particularly then the others are dropped. I think providing you get out super early the sun up placcy fishing is going to excellent - bout bloody time anglers got a shot at some new (not shopping trolley!) reef.
Cheers

Is it an issue being only 5 m at low tide? I thought Harry's was deeper than that?

Not for you and me Tim, unless your dragging a deep water sonar that you are not telling anyone about...
Yep as for major vessels though it could well be an issue, but its a bloody big rig that draws 5m and I havent seen anything that size from through there, but thats not to say that they havent or wont in future. You would get out that way more than me Tim, what do you reckon about the 5m?
Cheers

Aha! It has come to rest 50m South of it's intended location. Might not sound much, but that's in 5 metres of water, not 20. That would also mean that in a Southerly, if you wanted to anchor up, you'd be dropping your anchor in stuff all water, correct?
Looking for a Harry's expert to answer these questions...
Cheers,
Tim
