" From DERM," this was due to the ship taking on a lot of water during the recent high winds and rough seas.

Aren't there a couple of digits missing off the given latitude? So they're not exactly sure where she went down?

What is the actual Mariner's mark for Harry's, anyone have it?

    hmmmmm.

    I noticed that too, Tim.

Whacked that mark into the Lowrance as 27 24 500 and it came up west of the marks I have for Harries. Not all that far west though.
In fairly deep water which is probably their intention.

Now, only need some decent weather to go and have a look.

    Re: Tiwi Pearl. SUNK !!!!!!

Further to that, how many of us didn't think it was a good idea for them to be doing what they were doing when the forecast said what it said? Most? You can bet that was the advice Kate had, so why press on???

This has been handled extremely poorly - more evidence of people in power just not having a clue about the real world, and hanging others on their own political agenda.

What announcement is coming this week, that they so badly needed to risk things on the weekend?

They saw the forecast and how it was building up. Why did they take it out there in the first place? A weeks wait wouldnt have hurt. Dic***ads.

Mystery of the Sinking of the Tiwi Pearl deepens

The mystery surrounding the sudden sinking of the Tiwi Pearl in Moreton Bay on Friday has deepened today as the government fends off questions about its handling of the scuttling of the boat.

Member for Cleveland Mark Robinson said a dark cloud now hangs over the Minister for Sustainability, Kate Jones, about why she sent the boat into the eye of the storm that she says caused the early sinking.

"The minister blamed the weather for the botched early scuttling that she said would take place on Sunday. Her lame reason that the 'weather made me do it' is inexcusable as weather forecasts of strong wind warnings for Moreton Bay for Friday to Sunday were available earlier in the week at the same time that she ordered the boat be positioned over the reef in readiness for the sinking.

"The minister needs to make public the advice she received about the weather forecast. When did she first know that the fierce blow was coming? It defies logic that she was unaware of the storm: the 'storm, what storm' excuse won't wash minister. Did the minister act against advice and endanger the project?

The trouble brewing was easily anticipated and the minister has been shown to be both incompetent and irresponsible for putting the Bay's important artificial reef program in jeopardy.

Dr Robinson said, "one more snapped anchor rope in the big wind could have produced another Cherry venture on beautiful North Stradbroke or Moreton islands, rather than more reef for fishers to use". And there is a question about whether it lies in a good place - it certainly missed the planned spot !!

"The minister left the Tiwi pearl project in the lap of the weather gods. Instead of waiting until the coast was clear of bad weather, it appears the government wanted to go early so that the 'coast was clear of boaties and fishers' who were planning a protest at Manly harbour on Sunday against the government's anti-fishing policies.

"The Tiwi Pearl has sunk, and with it the government's credibility among the fishing public of Queensland. Boaties and fishers, who feel let down, lied to and betrayed, agree that this minister and government cannot be trusted and that there is something thing very fishy about the mysterious circumstances leading up to the sinking of the Tiwi Pearl.

It has been evident to me that Anna and her Government have, for quite some time, been in the process of "sinking their ship" long before this exercise in incompetance.

So what is the problem? It's sunk isn't it? was it off mark or something? I don't get the clamour over this, I don't know stuff all about it either but does everything today to be a success- need to happen with the sophistication of a cucumber sandwich tea party.
