nipped out again today left vic pt at 10am straight to houseboat and did about 10 drifts for no keepers... what is this? a little cod ???

anyway headed back to the banks north of mcleay about 1pm and did a few drifts there...nuthin but little sharks (lots of them) and small squire...
about 2.00 this research boat comes up about 40 meters off my port, stops for a bit (ive already grabbed my camera) waves then leaves, im sure they either took a photo of my boat or recorded the rego number....anyhow i too a photo of them... do they look familliar to any.... seen a few reports about them....

so...fishing.... yeah nothing in the esky again
5 drops of rain but looked like cleveland got a storm...
back by 4pm and on 3rd jim now..

they`re called smileys(nick name) or I think they are a papuan jaw fish or something like that , we get a few up the hinchinbrook area, bizare looking little fella`s.
we had the same boat head out following us north of hutchies yesterday but by the time he got to us we were on our way back to hutchies again so he looked a little silly doin circle work pretending not to be sussing us out. he was with a green and silver marine parks mother ship at hutchies for a while after that. there was recent thread about this spy vessel but apparently all is good and they are just training to be better spy`s and learning which areas to make the next marine parks!!!!! ( tongue in cheek)

that fish is a papuan jawfish, been a couple caught and posted up before.

As for that 'research' vessel, next time go up to them and demand to know what they are doing, and what details they have recorded about you. I'f they've taken ANY of your info you have a right to know.

they told us that they were csiro yesterday out from tempest and did we want to partake in a ten minute phone survey later that day, uuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmm no cause last time we took part in a similar task a big green line went and ate our fishin spots.

I encountered the same boat at mud island yesterday (took a photo of them myself as well because it seemed suspect). So being the inquisitive bugger I am went up and asked them what they were actually doing. Response from them was that they were from the CSIRO researching how people use Moreton Bay.

Was also asked if i wanted to do a phone survey later, gave them my number. But I will be sure as hell to ask who commissioned the study and its purpose before i participate.

That Research boat if you look more closely towards front midship is a blue and white circle. Looks like the words CSIRO.

You can confirm with CSIRO at Cleveland and Deception Bay if they have such a vessel and would also be prudent to send them a copy . If the veesle does not belong to CSIRO they can send it to the water police branch to investigate it.

No but it is illegal to masqearade and paint a boat to say they are from an established research facility, its happened before and who is to say that the vessel in the photo is a legit one?
