best day in a fortnight so made a late decision to head out in the bay...

left vic pt round 11am, tried myora for naught, trid squidding at 1 mile for nought... shot over to peel, west of lazerette for nought so acchored up on the houseboat..some red rats and a couple of trevs....pulled stumps about 6.20 for a bumpy ride home in the darkening sky...

saw a line of crab pots in the eperapah green zone, think people would be aware after 12 months...oh well...

so the id... i know theyre trevs, question is what trev and are tjhey table fish or should i put em in the bait freezer ??? theyre about the 35cm mark...
dosent look like the fillets will be huge, look a little anerexic
(stupid wabbits, playing 'elma fud-kill da wabbit' in my head)

I found myself asking the same question regarding the edibility of trevally after my trip to Mud Island a couple of weeks ago and the general answer that I received here from a few people was that they are a good feed if they are bled on capture. http://www.ausfish.com.au/vforum/sho...d.php?t=161347

I actually did that with one caught at Mud Island today and we cooked it and some tailor for tea tonight.

I found that I prefer the tailor and found the trevally a little bland but my wife had just the opposite perspective. She said that based on tonight's tasting, she would prefer the trevally to the tailor.

So clearly, it comes down to your personal taste.

Ive eaten unbled trevally the next day for breakfast with flour on the bbq, I thought it was actually pretty good, just ignore the blood line. Its not going to hurt you if it doesnt taste good.

That was a big eye btw, dont know if its different.

G;day Ozie - I ventured out yesterday as well.....started at Reddybay and worked my way north to the houseboat....it was early about 7.30am - so missed you by a couple of hours.....I had plenty of action but not many keepers....I also caught a trevally at the houseboat - 40cm in length put up a good fight on the plastic gear - but released as I did think not much flesh.....3rd drift over the houseboat and my 5inch nuc. chook which was deadsticking - takes off at a hundred miles.....I know a battle was on here.....5 mins later a monster jew comes to the surface - 90cm - it was huge and thick......after that I started up the engine to drift again and I had no excelleration....cable must have snapped.....had to put put home back to Redland Bay boat ramp - took me 2 1/2 hours....ah well.....best day on the water in ages...

was talking to a guy at the ramp before launching (he was just back) and he got 2 jew round that size and a cobia just over limit.... all at the houseboat....
didnt ask what bait or drift/anchor..
