Thread: Escapee!

    Escapee!

Went looking for a few prawns in the Pine this morning. Didn't find many prawns but I did get this bloke near Stinky Wall. Makes you wonder how many lungfish are loose in the Pine as well after the latest overflow. Their chances of survival (and the yellows as well) wouldn't be great as the salt reaches right up beyond Young's Crossing in the dry. The fish went just under 2kg.

Be careful out there. It's all green zone from the mouth of the Pine through to about Nudgee Beach. The yellow zone only extends 500m from the shore and the prawns are usually further out than that. You'll need to keep a close watch on the GPS. I had a few throws this morning out around the beacons where the Pine runs into Bramble Bay but got nothing, which was also what I got in nearly every other place I threw the net between the mouth of the Pine right up to Stinky Wall. Also had a nice chat with the water police who pulled me over for a safety check since I was just about the only boat in the whole river.

    They don't stand a chance.

There were large numbers of fish in the pine when the gates were open in April last year. They were then hunted down and removed from the river mercilessly with some of the pricks taking buckets full of bass (2 fish bag???) . This year will be no different. Most of these ferals seem to appear just on or after dark and it is often difficult to even find a vehicle to make a report to fisheries with. Even though fisheries were called on many occasions, they always arrive well after the event to see what's going on. The fish don't even get a break during the supposed closed season with many taking advatage and filling freezers with these vulnerable fish, even some of the catch and release guys that think they are doing the right thing still target them, they refuse to abide by the closed season guide lines. But it's not worth getting stabbed over so becareful about confronting some of these low life's.
