    Crafty Crab Trap

I've just purchased, but have not received yet, two crafty crab traps. These are the little crab traps that you attach to your rod and line and cast. The manufacturer recommends casting out and checking every 5 mins or so.
Does anyone have any of these or used them? I'm curious about how these will go.

Something new sounds good. Could you tell me the site from where you've come across these new gizmoes? I'd like to have a look.
    Cheers Gavin.

    Hey Gavin,
The website is pretty ordinary, but you'll get the idea . It is www craftycrabtrap com. I just thought that it could be nice and small to keep in the boat and when I'm fishing I could throw it in and try my luck. I've never caught a legal buck, so I'm willing to give anything a try, and it definitely won't be raided by sharefarmers.
    Cheers,

My brother bought a few of these two years ago for times when you cant keep a bait on your line. Work very effectively on sandies off the shore, although they can be hard work as they weigh quite heavily in the water with a good crab inside. You should be using 6kg minimum lines and preferably ten if there is a decent current working. Not every cast lands the right way up though.

Thanks Jack. I'm hoping they will be very heavy when I wind them in. I'm going to dedicate one or two old rods with heavy line for their use. I'll flick some lures around while they're deployed and hope for the best.
    Cheers,
    Ross

it would be interesting to compare one of these to the "crab snares" you see around with the 6 loops and the bait cage side by side.

eelman, make sure to let us know how you go !, ill certainly pick one or two up if they work as they say.

I will even take pics as it will be quite a big event for me! I'll probable get the on Monday and hopefully I'll be able to get out on Wednesday and have a go. I'll be torn between drifting for flatties and staying put for crabs!

A long time ago I was told that a pair of womens stockings tied to the swivel would snare any crabs mauling my baits.

I don't chase crabs, and I've never tried it. But it sounds like it'd work.

Someone else also told me the method would be illegal.

Anyone else heard this or tried it out?

Yeah, you're right Jack. I didn't give the idea too much thought.
Got to be a better way to trap crabs that are nibbling on your pillies.

I can imagine the wife finding a pair of pantyhose in the boat. She'd have all her mates in stitches searching for the makeup bag.

Come to think of it, fish net stockings with a pilly stuffed in each leg does bring back scary memories of a very brief and troubling blind date that my mates set up for me once.
