    Scarborough canal critters

Had a brief little session walking the banks of the canals at Scarborough this arvo. Well that is a lie, I didn't have to walk anywhere at all, the first dead end of a canal that I came to had some nervous bait bunched up against the surface with the occasional bigger splash causing havoc. First cast in with a gulp shrimp saw it get smacked nearly the second it hit the water with some nice runs on the little 1-3kg rod with 4pd line and a solid fight right to the bank before I dragged up a nice little trev. I got another four before they moved out of casting range and I couldn't be bothered crawling under pontoon gangways to get to them, not to mention the rain that was starting again so it was time to get out of there. Sat out the shower in the car and moved onto another dead end to find a good 750-800mm longtom cruising the shallows, a skip cast of the gulp shrimp across the surface got his attention and he was straight on to it. Although he'd taken the lure I just couldn't get it to stick in that hard as nails mouth of hios with all those bloody big teeth, when I applied presure he would run or jump before dropping the lure, but a couple of twitches would see him turn and pick it up again only to repeat the proceedure. He finally lost interest after 4 attempts, but it was good fun while it lasted.

Got my eye on a couple of spots to break out the heavier gear on, but then again if things go my way Jacks aren't unstoppable on 4pd

Using a 1-4kg Shimano raider finese bream with a shimano sustain 1000 with 4pd finns braid and 4pd leader and 1/40th HWS jighead with 2 inch gulp shrimp. This rod is 7ft and gives me a bit more casting distance when landbased with light plastics.
