I.e if traffic is crawling, you could be 4m from the car in front if you want to, but at 100kph on the highway you should not be 4m in that condition.

Should also point out that when stopped, there is no distance you need to be behind, since 3 seconds from now you wont be in front of the car in front of you, you will be exactly where you were, you should still be sensible tho.
tried those chevrons on the north coast highway..a lot more than 3 seconds apart.

Re: What pi$$e$ you off when you go driving??

According to the instructor and examiner I had last week, the correct (probably new law) distance is 2 seconds.
For those that think they know the rules of the road, spend some time (and a little money) and have a lesson. The rules as I knew them had certainly changed.

Arrow on road in a turning lane --> you still must indicate as you are in fact turning.
Roundabouts --> Left turn - indicate left. Right turn - indicate right then left to exit roundabout. If going straight ahead - enter roundabout and indicate to turn off said roundabout.

If you get pulled up for breaching a new law, what excuse are you going to give the nice policeman/woman........I didn't know that one officer????

Everyone should sit a refresher course every 5 years.........1 year for those over the age of 60.......This is my opinion.

Everyone does know what would happen if every car at a set of traffic lights waited 2 or 3 seconds to drive off.............. ??

    Wags,

I have seen some mind blowing incidents from Driving instructors.... while they are in the car alone. I do not believe they are the bible.

    Here's a little treat guys....

Next time you're out and about ( not you in the bush Scotty ), take notice of how the vehicle in front of you turns into the left hand lane, FROM the right hand lane when turning at traffic lights ..... WHILE THEIR RIGHT HAND INDICATOR IS ON.........

Is this how driving instructors teach their students ?????

I also agree with Wags..... refresher course every 5 years or so .... not too sure about the age thing.....

He who has the biggest bullbar .....goes first

I do not want to sound pedantic, but if you are driving down a street that has a 90 degree elbow in it, do you indicate to turn through that corner ?

You are " turning " as Wag's instructor has pointed out.... there has to be a better explanation , other that " turning ". ???????

2-3 seconds gap on a motorbike = death. I reckon I would be double that. Pisses people of no end when I overtake on the highway, but screw you all, riding a bike is dangerous enough and I dont need to increase my odds...

ACtually, I just put some more thought into that. 6 seconds is a long time at 100kph. Its probably not that much, but I do leave a fair gap for stopping. I would be surprised if it were not more than 3 seconds, but I will count it next time I am on the highway.

Re: What pi$$e$ you off when you go driving??

I'm an old fart when I drive and I try to leave the 3 (now 2) second gap but some bugger always puches into it.
How do you stop someone using YOUR safety gap??
Poeple don't take any notice of the bitumen burners or the bullbar..and if you drop further back some other bugger will puch his/her way in. That happens all the blasted time when people are using on ramps.

Hey Phil. When the tractor gets up here I'm thinking about registering it and driving it about town. Only $200 or so to register for the year and no parking worries. What do you reckon of that idea??

Gees it's fun taking the mickey out of you Phil

true reilly, the beaches are designated roads......... good point and ya sound a tad cranky about it

That'd be Phill with two l's........

I'll have to visit " the dungeon " soon.... need two sets of wood grips for a couple spin sticks.... chat about that Saturday.

BTW, don't leave Saturday without that piece of equipment for Mrs Palmer.

Funny thing, years ago I had a black ( matt ) ford panelvan with FB steel bullbar. I drove to the coast a lot and always had the headlights on..... strange how everyone got out of the right hand lane in front of me.....

Well, I really hope I dont get pulled up by a police officer and he tells me that I am being fined for being 1 second behind where I should be..., I dont care what the new rules are 1 second is not enough gain for me to increase the risk of an accident.

...Not like those idiots who weave in and out of traffic on roads only to end up at the lights next to the person they overtook 30 seconds ago.

I tested myself today. I am riding 3 seconds behind at 60kph and 4 seconds at 80kph (ICB). Maybe I am 5 at 100kph??

Cant belive no one mentioned the traffic lights that magically change to red at 3 am in the morning without any other vechile within 300 kms of them .

Same set of traffic lights that wont change for 3 hrs when your coming out of the side street

Worst thing is bike riders that follow in the back passenger side so you cant see them out your drivers side rear view .

I usually move over left and wave them through , so i can see them in front of me . occasionally you will have a dick move from side to side behind you so you cant keep track of where they are .

Tip 1 If you ride a bike , sit in plain view of the drivers side rear view if possible, and flick the high beam during the day to let people know you are there !! Most will pull over abit to let you through, or at least realise you are there

Re: What pi$$e$ you off when you go driving??

Many things get on my goat when driving but I spose as my misses says ...I must be perfect and have been known to make the occasional mistake ....but what really gets me is these lycra clad push bike riders who don't give a stuff about road rules and continue to break them with gay abandon ...
Just this morning we were stopped at lights (awaiting the pleasure of the light regulator to change and allow us thru ) when low and behold here come a lycra clad straight thru the red light ...without a care in the world ..
But I spose if you don't have to pay rego or anything to use the roads then you don't have to obey the rules cos they were only made for car drivers and motorbike riders ....
    enough of my ramblings ..
    Cheers Tezza
