    Re: LED trailer lights

LED autolamps now offer at least one of their tail light models with long wires, just that not everybody stocks them .........and the price of led is comming down.

Anybody noticed that not many boat trailers are being sold with light boards these days...................the authorities are not keen on a situation where the number plate is not permanently fixed to the trailer......I think we will see more of this issue in the future.

remember if you park on a public road, your trailer is not roadworthy without the light board attached.

My brother has LED tail lights on his boat trailer, they never get dunked... but he has had a failure........cheap lamps pure and simple.

If ya goimg to buy LED, don't buy cheap ones.

    cheers

    Re: LED trailer lights

Yep another year and i swore i'd never buy another set.

I still maintain there is no advantage whatsoever and its tech for tech sake.

You lot are as lazy as i am...cant spend the 15 seconds taking them off a simple bracket and shoving em in the boot...and cant change a light bulb anymore. Much easier to throw money away and invite thieves to have a look.

If this set dies i'll stick my bloody hand out the window to signal from now on.

    Re: LED trailer lights

The single biggest advantage of LED..is that if they are properly made, they simply do not blow, or have any of the contact issues that filamanet lamps have.

Big brother who travels the north and west extensivly on the roughest roads, got so sick and tyred of blowing lamps and getting a hard time from the coppers for it ( at least 1 lamp nearly every trip), so he changed the tail lights on his old patroll to LED years ago when they were not cheap.....that set have not missed a beat.

There are very big advantage in durability in LED if you buy decent ones.

If you are busting lenses...well that is your silly fault.

    cheers

This is an easy one, just by Hella, Yes they are expensive but all you have to do is bolt them on wire them up and forget about them its that easy.

    Re: LED trailer lights

Have had a set of LED Autolamps lights on the trailer since 2005 & have had no issue at all. Love them!

Mine only have the short leads, but if you solder & use the correct heat shrink type and size you will have a reliable water proof underwater connection that will provide years of trouble free use.

IMO, any LED light that had a plug type connection aint worth a pinch of shyt.

    Re: LED trailer lights

I am after a set. Looks like good reports on LED Autolamps, Trojan and Hella. Looking at them online, they all seem to say 'Matching License plate to suit'. What does that mean? Sounds like they is no license plate light and I need to then get another light to wire in for that. Is that the story?

    Re: LED trailer lights

Ya have to look at each individual lamp or set.

Tail lamps not intended for trailers will not have a number plate lamp incorpirated.

Some tail lamps intended for trailers WILL have a number plate lamp incorpirated, BUT that is no good to you if you number plate does not mount directly under one of the tail lamps.

so there are number plate lamps offered seperately.

    Re: LED trailer lights

The hella lights don't have the facility to light the number plate but that may have changed that was why I bought the narva lights with the long leads attached ...matt

    Re: LED trailer lights

The Trojan set that I fitted has the number plate light "integrated" it involved a handful of white leds in the resin casing that pointed down.

    Re: LED trailer lights

I went to Repco and they did not have any Trojan, but have their own brand. Apparently they are Narva. Just repackaged for them. They had a couple of types. One of which had the numberplate light in the kit. $85.00. Very happy with the purchase.
